HarperCollins, US, a division of News Corp., has selected NewsStand, Inc., US, as its exclusive vendor to develop a global digital warehouse hosting all digital content in multiple formats for all its divisions. Through the new deal, HarperCollins expects to distribute digital content to its retail, search and online partners, as well as to its consumer web site.
The warehouse development is part of an ongoing effort to construct the proper digital infrastructure to take full advantage of HarperCollins' content for marketing and eventually for monetisation. The creation of the global warehouse will allow HarperCollins to maintain control of its digital files and intellectual property and protect the rights of its authors.
NewsStand will begin digitising HarperCollins' extensive front- and backlist immediately. The companies expect to complete the digitisation of over 10,000 titles by the end of June 2006. NewsStand currently distributes and markets over 200 daily newspapers and magazine titles in over 120 countries. The HarperCollins project marks the company's entry into the book-publishing sector.
