Scientific publisher
Cell Press, US, has announced the launch of
Cell Host & Microbe, a new monthly journal focused on the interactions between microbes and their hosts. Dr Lakshmi Goyal will serve as the journal's editor. Scheduled for launch in March 2007, the journal is designed to stimulate the exchange of ideas and concepts between scientists studying the microbe and those studying host responses upon microbial invasion.
Cell Host & Microbe will address the renewed interest in microbial disease stemming from bioterrorism concerns, the rise of antibiotic-resistant bacteria, and emerging conditions such as bird flu. It will highlight new findings related to microbes, with particular emphasis on the interface between the microbe and its host. In addition to primary research manuscripts, the journal will include expert analysis, commentary, and reviews covering topics of current interest in the field.
The publication will consider papers covering aspects of basic and translational research related to molecular and cell biology of microbes, host cellular and immune response to microbes, vaccine design and development, microbial pathogenesis, immune evasion, therapeutics, evolution and natural history of microbes, and emerging pathogens.
