 Ziff Davis partners with IDG TechNetwork to expand IT tech network

  Integrated media firms Ziff Davis Enterprise and IDG TechNetwork have announced a business partnership designed to help technology marketers and agencies reach a larger audience with their branding, product launch and lead generation programmes. In the first phase of the agreement, Ziff Davis’ Developer Shed Network (DSN) will join the IDG TechNetwork, a media and ad network of more than 200 non-IDG publishers.

  

 Springer set to publish The HUGO Journal

  STM publisher Springer has announced that it will publish The HUGO Journal in cooperation with the Human Genome Organisation (HUGO), starting October 2009. Formerly published by Springer as Genomic Medicine, The HUGO Journal now has a new design, new features and a new editorial team. Members of HUGO will receive free access to the journal online and be able to purchase print subscriptions at discounted rates.

  

 Cadmus awarded 3-year contract extension by American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics

  Publishing services provider Cadmus Communications has announced that it has been awarded a 3-year contract extension by the American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET). Under the deal, Cadums will provide a full range of scholarly journal production services including copyediting, journal production management, composition, content management, and printing for ASPET's journals: Journal of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics, Molecular Pharmacology, Drug Metabolism and Disposition and Pharmacological Reviews. Cadmus has partnered with ASPET since 1998 to produce these titles.

  

 SAGE partners with Lyrasis to offer e-journal portfolio to member libraries

  Academic publisher SAGE has announced that, for the first time, its entire e-journal and reference portfolio is available to members of Lyrasis. Lyrasis is a new not-for-profit membership organisation created earlier this year from the merger of regional library networks PALINET and SOLINET. With this new partnership, participating members of Lyrasis will be able to choose from three SAGE journal and reference packages - SAGE Premier, SAGE Deep Backfile Package and SAGE Reference Online.

  

 Blackwell in deal with Ingram Digital to distribute e-Books to academic libraries

  Digital content services provider Ingram Digital has announced an agreement with Blackwell, supplier of books and bibliographic support to academic and research libraries. The deal gives Blackwell e-book distribution rights to libraries around the world via Ingram’s industry-leading MyiLibrary platform, with the exception of the United Kingdom and Canada. The agreement will allow Blackwell Digital Services customers to discover and order MyiLibrary e-books via Collection Manager, the Blackwell interface.

  

 Elsevier announces publishing partnership with the Royal Colleges of Surgeons of Edinburgh and Ireland

  STM publisher Elsevier has announced a publishing partnership with The Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh and The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland. Under the agreement, Elsevier will assume publication of The Surgeon, the official journal of these Royal Colleges, from January 2010. This agreement will enable the journal to reach a wider audience of surgical specialists across the world.

  

 Semantico deploys Shibboleth access management protocol for Palgrave Macmillan

  Online publishing services provider Semantico Ltd. has completed deployment of the Shibboleth access management protocol across all its sites for global academic publisher Palgrave Macmillan. This is the latest in the series of Shibboleth deployments which Semantico is currently carrying out which includes OUP, Brill and Wiley-Blackwell. Taken together, these deployments signal a widespread acceptance of the Shibboleth technology by global publishers and their willingness to embrace federated access.

  

 BMJ Group announces publishing partnership with AMIA

  Medical information publisher BMJ Group has announced that it is partnering with a US based society to publish the Journal of the American Medical Informatics Association (JAMIA), starting January 2010. BMJ will publish the journal on behalf of the American Medical Informatics Association (AMIA), through its Affinity programme.

  

 Wiley-Blackwell set to publish Clinical and Experimental Neuroimmunology

  Wiley-Blackwell, the STM and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc, has announced that it will be publishing a new immunology journal titled Clinical and Experimental Neuroimmunology from 2010. The global publisher will publish the journal in partnership with the Japanese Society for Neuroimmunology.

  

 EBSCO Publishing acquires AARP’s AgeLine database

  Information solutions provider Unlimited Priorities Corporation has announced the sale of AARP’s online bibliographic database, AgeLine, to research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO). AgeLine is produced by AARP and focuses on the subject of aging and middle-aged and older adults. Unlimited Priorities initiated the transaction, helped manage the process, assisted in the negotiations and acted as the exclusive strategic and financial advisor to AARP.

  

 Russia's largest academic consortium is first to use Nanotechnology Knowledge Dashboard

  The Healthcare & Science business of Thomson Reuters has announced that NEICON, Russia's largest academic consortium, will be the first organisation to have access to the new Nanotechnology Knowledge Dashboard. The Knowledge Dashboard, developed in partnership with Collexis, is a custom data mining solution for the research community that merges Thomson Reuters Web of Science data and the Collexis Knowledge Dashboard functionalities.

  

 Wiley-Blackwell acquires Topley & Wilson’s Microbiology and Microbial Infections

  Wiley-Blackwell, the STM and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc, has announced the acquisition of Topley & Wilson’s Microbiology and Microbial Infections (T&W) from Hodder-Arnold. T&W is projected as a major reference work of world prominence now in its tenth edition. With eight volumes covering the fields of Virology, Bacteriology, Medical Mycology, Parasitology, and Immunology, the title will take a prominent place in the Wiley-Blackwell catalogue.

  

 University of Chicago Press extends multi-year deal with Cadmus

  Publishing services provider Cadmus Communications has announced that it has been awarded a three and a half year contract extension by the University of Chicago Press (UCP). Under the deal, Cadmus will provide a full range of scholarly journal production services including composition, content management, and printing for many of UCP's widely-acclaimed journals.

  

 MEDai, Gold Standard launch MTM 360 Medication Therapy Management system

  Two Elsevier companies, MEDai, Inc. and Gold Standard, Inc., have introduced MTM 360, a complete medication therapy management (MTM) system. MTM 60 is projected to enable health plans, benefit sponsors and other payors to successfully meet CMS’ expanded MTM programme requirements for 2010 and beyond. It is expected to aid their Medicare Part D business – from enrollment guidelines, medication reviews and interventions, to reporting and outcomes measurement. MTM 360 is claimed to combine the power of MEDai’s Risk Navigator Guidelines and Gold Standard’s MTM Exchange.

  

 Ex Libris and EBSCO Publishing partner to offer online access to e-journals via Primo Central

  Library solutions provider Ex Libris Group has signed an agreement with electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO). The agreement enables EBSCOhost subscribers that run the Primo discovery and delivery solution to offer their users seamless access to the EBSCOhost electronic content via a new Primo component, Primo Central. The Primo technology will be used by Ex Libris to index the EBSCO content centrally and make it available for users’ searches along with all other library and institutional collections. Primo will display the search results in a single relevance-ranked list.

 APA announces enhanced display features on APA PsycNET search platform

  The American Psychological Association (APA) has released a significant enhancement for all PsycARTICLES and PsycCRITIQUES users on the APA PsycNET search platform. With newly-redesigned HTML display functionality for all full-text documents in both databases, APA PsycNET now allows users to browse, search and share content more easily. All APA PsycNET users, including institutions and APA members who subscribe via APA PsycNET Silver, APA PsycNET Gold or APA PsycNET Platinum can benefit from the enhanced display features.

  

 Wiley-Blackwell launches inaugural issue of Asia-Pacific Psychiatry

  Wiley-Blackwell, the STM and scholarly publishing business of John Wiley & Sons, Inc, has announced that the inaugural issue of its new journal, Asia-Pacific Psychiatry, is now online. The official journal of the Pacific Rim College of Psychiatrists, and focused on the Asia and Pacific Rim, Asia-Pacific Psychiatry seeks to help psychiatrists and other mental health professionals in the region to share their research, educational programmes and clinical experience with a larger international readership.

  

 Elsevier launches official version of neuroscience research tool, BrainNavigator

  STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of the official version of BrainNavigator, a neuroscience research tool developed in collaboration with the Allen Institute for Brain Science and under the editorship of Professor George Paxinos and Charles Watson, Prince of Wales Medical Research Institute, Sydney. After unveiling the prototype version at the Society for Neuroscience’s Neuroscience 2008 tradeshow in November 2008, the rodent brain version is now available at www.brainnav.com.

  

 Springer launches SpringerImages database

  STM publisher Springer Science+Business Media has launched SpringerImages, a growing collection that now includes over 1.5 million scientific images, tables, charts and graphs, spanning all scientific subject areas. The new database will be officially launched at the forthcoming American Library Association Annual Conference in Chicago. The database will contain photos, graphs, histograms, tables and figures, and is available by subscription to libraries and research institutions.

  

 Bowker unveils enhanced version of book discovery and collection development platform

  Bibliographic information provider Bowker has announced the beta-release of the latest version of its book discovery and collection development platform, Books in-Print (BIP). The official global market release of BIP 2.0 is scheduled for the early fourth quarter of 2009. BIP 2.0 seeks to provide librarians, researchers and library patrons with access to a rich set of book information available in the reference market.

  

 ALPSP ties up with UK Publishers Association for Copyright Infringement Portal

  The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishing (ALPSP) has announced a collaboration with the UK Publishers Association (PA) on an ALPSP branded version of the PA's Copyright Infringement Portal. Use of the portal is expected to give the industry a huge advantage in dealing with infringers. Channeling notice and take downs through one portal is seen to give cross-publisher insight into where infringement is taking place, making it possible to determine the most appropriate action with individual websites and Internet service providers.

  

 American Psychological Association launches APA Books E-Collections

  The American Psychological Association (APA) has announced the release of APA Books E-Collections, a new way for institutions to purchase, own and provide access to APA scholarly and professional book content. APA Books E-Collections also offer the first in-year availability of APA's current copyright year book content in electronic format.

  

 EBSCO unveils enhanced federated search tool, EHSCOhost Integrated Search

  Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO) is set to launch EBSCOhost Integrated Search (EHIS). Like traditional federated search tools, EHIS can simultaneously search EBSCOhost databases along with all other electronic resources, including OPACs, publisher packages and resources from other database aggregators. EBSCOhost is projected as one of the most used research platforms, offering users a well-known search experience. According to the company, the easy-to-use features and functionality within EBSCOhost provide users with one simple and intuitive starting place for integrated searching.

  

 SirsiDynix launches SirsiDynix Enterprise 3.0 library discovery tool

  Library technology solutions provider SirsiDynix has announced the launch of SirsiDynix Enterprise 3.0. Enterprise 3.0 offers users a single ‘search well’ to discover all resources made available by the library including one or more library catalogues, digital collections, selected web sites and federated resources. The beta programme for SirsiDynix Enterprise 3.0 will conclude this summer. General availability is scheduled for September 2009.

  

 NISO-OCLC white paper examines metadata creation and use in book supply chain

  The National Information Standards Organisation (NISO) and OCLC have announced the publication of a white paper titled ‘Streamlining Book Metadata Workflow’. Written by consultant Judy Luther (President, Informed Strategies), the paper analyses the current state of metadata creation, exchange and use throughout the book supply chain. Through interviews with over 30 industry representatives, Luther has created a book metadata exchange map illustrating the workflow and metadata exchange, and has identified opportunities for eliminating redundancies and making the entire process more economical.

 JISC, Ithaka unveil study on revenue models for digital resources

  JISC-led Strategic Content Alliance and Ithaka S+R have released a research that looks at 12 different digital resource projects across the globe and how they are successfully identifying sources of support and generating revenue. Spending on digital resources is under the spotlight in this international study, which aims to help the not-for-profit sector develop cost-effective strategies for financing technology. The studies demonstrate that, while many projects are attempting to generate some revenue through subscription, pay-per-view and a range of licensing arrangements, their income still depends heavily on support from the institutions that host them.

  

 Thomson Reuters survey analyses Brazil’s rising scientific prominence

  Thomson Reuters has announced the results of a study documenting Brazil's steady rise during the last two decades in both the volume and impact of its scientific work. According to Science Watch, Thomson Reuters’ subscription newsletter, these findings underscore Brazil's standing among the emergent ‘BRIC’ nations. BRIC - an acronym for Brazil, Russia, India and China - are the countries possessing the resources and economic potential to capture a significant share of the world's future economic growth.

 Ex Libris expands its European organisation

  Library solutions provider Ex Libris Group has announced the opening of Ex Libris Italy—a wholly owned subsidiary of the Company. The opening of this office, part of the continually expanding Ex Libris European organisation under the management of Marc Daubach, corporate VP and general manager Europe, follows the Company’s acquisition of Atlantis s.r.l. Liliana Morotti, previously chief operations officer and marketing director at Atlantis, will assume the role of general manager of Ex Libris Italy responsible for sales and marketing in Italy and Slovenia.

 Elsevier Foundation calls for grant proposals by August 1 under two programmes

  The Elsevier Foundation has announced that it is accepting new grant proposals for its 2009 Innovative Libraries in Developing Countries and New Scholars programmes till August 1, 2009. The grants for the two programmes will be awarded in December 2009 and provide one-, two- and three-year awards of $5,000-50,000 per year.

 IOP Publishing announces 2010 prices; to offer 6 open access titles

  Non-profit scientific publisher Institute of Physics Publishing (IOP) has introduced e-only subscriptions for 2010. The new e-only option will allow customers to renew 2009 subscriptions to all IOP Publishing-owned titles in 2010 with no price increase. E-only versions of IOP journal packages will also be available for the first time. In addition, IOP continues to invest in providing open access options to the physical sciences community. The company now offers six free-to-read titles.

 Lippincott Williams & Wilkins announce impressive growth in Impact Factors of its journals

  Healthcare publisher Lippincott Williams & Wilkins, part of Wolters Kluwer Health, has announced major increases in journal impact factors across its portfolio. According to the 2008 Journal Citation Reports (JCR), published by Thomson Reuters, over 64 percent of 153 ranked LWW journals increased their impact factor. Impact factor is a measurement of the frequency with which peer-reviewed journals are cited by other researchers.

 CIG Media Group names Steve Close as Senior Manager, Advertising Sales, for clinical oncology journals

  Medical publisher CIG Media Group has announced the appointment of Steve Close as the Senior Manager, Advertising Sales, for its portfolio of tumor-specific, clinical oncology journals. Close joins CIG with more than 15 years of sales experience in the medical space, including five years in oncology.

  

 Thieme names new Editor-in-Chief for Skull Base

  Thieme Publishers, part of STM publisher Thieme Publishing Group, has announced the appointment of Dr. Dennis H. Kraus to the position of Editor-in-Chief of Skull Base. Under the direction of Dr. Kraus, a new generation of skull base surgeons, operating at the forefront of skull base surgery, will be appointed to the editorial board.
