Sweden Wolters Kluwer's mobile health resource gives doctors access to the most current medical information - 16 Mar 2018

Wolters Kluwer Health has announced that Västra Götalandsregionen (VGR) is providing UpToDate Anywhere, the comprehensive, mobile-enabled clinical decision support (CDS) resource, to healthcare professionals at its nine regional hospitals.

VGR is responsible for healthcare and medical treatment for over half a million residents in Sweden's second largest city, Gothenburg, and over a million residents in 48 other communities throughout the region's 25,000 km2. Now, with UpToDate Anywhere, VGR ensures access to the same high quality, evidence-based content across its nine regional general hospitals. This approach serves to reduce unnecessary, outdated or inappropriate treatments, while also ensuring care teams consider lower cost options that are as clinically effective as costly procedures.

Analysts at the market research firm Outsell, Inc. emphasize the significance of UpToDate for reducing variability of care in regions like VGR. Doctors and patients alike will benefit from UpToDate’s clinical faculty of more than 6,700 physician authors, editors, and peer-reviewers from more than 50 countries who apply their clinical expertise to critically evaluate and synthesize medical literature into clinical topics that can be quickly and easily accessed at the point of care.

Netherland Oxford University Press and VSNU announce 100% open access deal - 16 Mar 2018

The Association of Universities in the Netherlands (VSNU) and academic publisher Oxford University Press have announced a new three year deal covering subscriptions to OUP's journals and 100% open access to Dutch contributions in these journals in 2019 and 2020.

Last year, the negotiations between VSNU and OUP were suspended due to differences in position. Both parties have announced a deal, including the agreement to allow 100% of the publications by Dutch corresponding authors in OUP's hybrid journals to become available open access (based on the number of publications in 2016: 760).

The agreement for 2018-2020 was negotiated by the VSNU on behalf of all Dutch research universities and will take effect immediately. It also includes the subscription access which OUP continued to offer to Dutch universities during 2017.

UK Forty one Emerald Publishing titles included in latest Academic Journal Guide - 16 Mar 2018

Academic publisher Emerald Publishing has announced that its high quality business and management journals programme has been recognised by the UK's Chartered Association of Business Schools (Chartered ABS), with an additional 41 titles included in its latest Academic Journal Guide (AJG) - an impressive increase of 35%.

This increase accounted for nearly a quarter of all new journals added to the list in 2018. Emerald now has 150 journals included on the list, one of the primary sources for UK business academics for their research and publishing activities.

The Guide - which was last published in 2015, and has been updated this year ahead of a further review in 2021 - is based upon peer review, editorial and expert judgements following the evaluation of many hundreds of publications, and is informed by statistical information relating to citations of articles and journals. It is a highly used guide to the range, subject matter and relative quality of journals in which business and management academics publish their research, and has been adopted outside the UK across Europe, North America and Asia. As such, it continues to be an influential indicator for authors when deciding where to submit their research.

Emerald publishes around 200 journals in business, management and related areas. It has nine collections across these disciplines, with its core collections of Business, Management & Strategy and Marketing seeing an additional 13 and five journals added respectively. The more interdisciplinary nature of research in the AJG is reflected in the additions made to the Operations, Logistics & Quality collection (two titles) and Information & Knowledge Management collection (two titles).

The Association of Business Schools' Academic Journal Guide 2015 assessed the quality of 1,401 business and management publications worldwide, based on citation scores and the judgements of leading researchers. In 2018, the Guide assessed 1,582 (a 13% increase on 2015). It is designed to help academics to make decisions about where they should seek to have their work published and to help deans to evaluate performance.
