US Wiley partners with the March for Science - 16 Apr 2018

Publisher John Wiley and Sons Inc. has announced a partnership with the March for Science, a global nonpartisan movement that highlights the critical role science plays in improving our lives, understanding our world, and informing policymaking in communities across the world.

On April 14, 2018, more than 220 cities around the world hosted marches where scientists and supporters of science came together. At the rally in Washington, D.C., Wiley sponsored a tent on behalf of the National Council for Science and the Environment. In the long term, Wiley will support Vote for Science, a new program that seeks to secure the long-term funding of science policy, by providing access to scholarly and scientific content.

The National Council for Science and the Environment advances informed environmental policy through interdisciplinary research, scientific assessment, communication, and training. NCSE specialises in engagement that focuses on collaboration between diverse institutions and individuals using research and education.

In addition to Wiley's sponsorship of the April 14 Washington, D.C. rally, Wiley is also providing access to scholarly and scientific content for the Vote for Science campaign, a new program of the March for Science that represents the next step for science advocacy: securing the long-term future of science policy by linking science support with civic behaviour. The program seeks to create a direct connection between science supporters and policymakers. Understanding the scientific context of the issues facing the world today, from the environment to technology and innovation, is foundational for promoting a greater understanding of research and the role it plays in the lives of people around the world. By providing access to research and information on these topics, Wiley can support the role evidence-based, peer-reviewed research plays in decision-making.

US Wolters Kluwer-Rockburn Institute study links evidence-based clinical decision support to higher value-based care scores - 16 Apr 2018

Wolters Kluwer Health has released the results of a study conducted in partnership with the Rockburn Institute that revealed when nurses use Lippincott Advisor and Lippincott Procedures at the bedside, hospitals' Value-Based Purchasing (VBP) scores went up. Notably, the study found that hospitals using both evidence-based clinical decision support (CDS) tools exceeded the national average and had a nearly 25% higher average rank on 2017 scores than their peers, based on Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) performance measures.

The Rockburn Institute, a non-profit healthcare research consultancy group, evaluated data compiled over a three-year period from approximately 3,000 hospitals nationwide that participated in the VBP program. The performance of hospitals using both Lippincott Procedures and Lippincott Advisor was compared to the other hospitals that had received VBP Total Performance Scores for 2014 and 2015. Scores of hospitals using both CDS tools were then evaluated for 2017 against previous years' results.

Among the key study findings were that hospitals using both CDS tools achieved higher VBP Total Performance scores and adjustment factors than the national average; an average VBP Total Performance Score rank in 2017 that was nearly 25% higher than all other hospitals; and improved VBP Efficiency Domain scores.

Lippincott Procedures provides real-time access to step-by-step guides for more than 1,700 evidence-based procedures and skills, while Lippincott Advisor provides point-of-care access to information on more than 12,000 diseases, diagnostic tests, treatments, patient teaching, sentinel events, cultural perspectives, and medications.

Bulgaria Research Results in Pharmacology moves to high-tech journal platform ARPHA - 16 Apr 2018

Scholarly publisher Pensoft and Belgorod National Research University will jointly publish the rebranded and refreshed journal, Research Results in Pharmacology.

Since 2015, Belgorod National Research University's forward-thinking open-access and peer-reviewed scholarly journal Research Result: Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacology has been filling an essential gap as a scholarly venue for publications dealing with long-year research outcomes in pharmacology and clinical pharmacology.

Now, having moved to the high-tech journal publishing platform ARPHA (Authoring, Reviewing, Publishing, Hosting and Archiving), the rebranded Research Results in Pharmacology demonstrates its refreshed format in its first issue jointly published with Pensoft via the journal's brand new website.

Continuing its tradition, the journal welcomes articles on various aspects within pharmacology, including papers devoted to molecular screening with the use of modern methods of proteomics, cellular technologies, results of experimental studies in modelling abnormalities in laboratory animals and clinical studies in the field of pharmacotherapy, pharmacokinetics, pharmacoepidemiology, personalised therapy, multicenter studies and evidence-based medicine. All articles are published in English, with versions in Russian published on Belgorod National Research University's official website.

Apart from the evolution in its look-and-feel, thanks to the partnership with ARPHA, Research Results in Pharmacology now provides a long list of services at the disposal of all users - editors, reviewers, authors and readers alike, in order to ensure that articles are submitted, reviewed, published and disseminated rapidly and conveniently. To do this, the whole publication process takes place within ARPHA's singular online environment.

Once published, each article is freely available in three formats (PDF, XML, HTML), enriched with a whole set of semantic enhancements, so that the articles, along with their data, are easy to discover, access and harvest by both humans and machines.

Amongst the high-tech perks greeting any online publication's visitor are the article-level metrics available as a result of a partnership between ARPHA and the revolutionary discovery and analytics tools Dimensions and Altmetric. By searching through millions of research articles, grant applications, clinical trials, as well as policy documents, news stories, blogs and social media posts, they allow for each article's references and citations in both the academic and the public sphere to be monitored in real time.

Research Results in Pharmacology is the second Russian journal in ARPHA's and Pensoft's portfolios. Several new titles are expected to join them later this year.
