US ARTiFACTS and Innovative Education Services partner to expand use of blockchain-based platform in scholarly communication - 19 Jun 2018

ARTiFACTS, creator of the world's first blockchain-based platform for scholarly research, and Innovative Education Services (ies), the Asia-Pacific based consulting firm focused on enhancing quality and global visibility of Asian-Pacific scientific research, have formed a partnership to advance the use of blockchain in scholarly communications. Under this partnership, ARTiFACTS and ies will work together to expand the use of blockchain technology to help academic institutions, their researchers, and funding organisations throughout the Asia-Pacific region improve speed, collaboration, access, transparency, and attribution in scholarly research.

ies will train its clients on the ARTiFACTS platform and will also provide access for these clients to start using the platform to establish proof of existence for research outputs, share research artifacts, and provide and receive immutable attribution in real-time during the research process. Researchers will benefit from the ability to easily and securely share in-process work to speed collaboration and build reputation as research is conducted. Academic institutions will benefit from the enhanced visibility of world-class research created by their investigators, improving their enterprise reputation and introducing new collaborative opportunities. Funding organisations will sharpen their understanding of the outcomes and impact of their research grants.

The two entities have agreed to pursue implementations of the ARTiFACTS platform with leading academic research institutions and research funding organisations in Asia-Pacific. In turn, these institutions will make the ARTiFACTS platform available to the scholars and scientists they support. Collectively, this collaboration will bring the benefits of a blockchain-based approach to scholarly knowledge and attribution dissemination to a region experiencing rapid growth in outputs and interest from the global community.

US McGraw-Hill Education and Copia Interactive Collaborate to make digital learning materials more accessible and affordable for college students - 19 Jun 2018

Learning science company McGraw-Hill Education and Copia Interactive, a provider of digital learning materials, have announced an agreement to make it even easier for colleges to provide students with effective, affordable course materials via 'inclusive access' programs. A growing number of institutions are starting or expanding inclusive access programs, which enable students to have digital course materials automatically delivered to them on the first day of class or earlier at a much lower cost.

Through the agreement, McGraw-Hill Education materials, including eBooks and the company's powerful digital learning platform, McGraw-Hill Connect®, will be accessible to colleges that use Copia's platform for inclusive access. McGraw-Hill Education currently provides inclusive access at more than 500 campuses across the US, and that number continues to grow.

The collaboration is part of an effort by both companies to increase student success by making these crucial materials more affordable. McGraw-Hill Connect, which uses adaptive technology to personalise the learning experience for students and help instructors become even more effective, has been shown to help improve student grades and retention rates. It is used by millions of students, and is roughly half the cost of a traditional hard-bound textbook. Copia provides a suite of powerful tools that enable faculty to create engaging learning environments that are fully aligned with course objectives. Customisable discussions, multimedia links, and assessments can be embedded seamlessly inside the content, deepening students' engagement with their materials and faculty. Copia ensures educators are supported every step of the way by providing individualised services focused on creating instructional experiences that evolve with students' needs.

Through the agreement with Copia, students can now have McGraw-Hill Connect course materials served up to them directly through the Copia Class digital platform. When institutions provide inclusive access programs, students can choose to have their digital materials automatically delivered to them on the first day of class or earlier, and they benefit from significantly reduced prices while experiencing improved academic performance as they begin their course work as early as possible.
