UK ConTech 2019: Call for Speakers – submissions invited by March 29, 2019 - 22 Mar 2019

With just 10 days left to make a submission, ConTech has already received some excellent speaker proposals for ConTech 2019.

Content creation and consumption is changing faster than ever before. This is impacting business models, patterns of behaviour and virtually every aspect of the role information plays across organisations. ConTech 2019 is the platform to showcase the very latest thinking and to help understand how data science, AI and other emerging technologies can unlock a host of new opportunities for organisations of all types and sizes.

ConTech 2019 is looking for speakers to tell their stories around these issues and around core themes such as how the intersection of content, data and technology is changing the landscape; demonstrating the value of AI? What choices do you make?; data communication and visualization, ConTech 2019 will introduce a poster ‘gallery’ to further provide examples of this point; and data ethics and innovation. Speakers are welcome on all aspects of these new technologies that are revolutionising the value of content and how it is used.

ConTech 2019 is focused on how a new generation of technology is impacting the world of content. The event is seeking content pioneers who are already seeing the benefits of using data science, the data science visionaries who are building new content tools and those who understand how to start applying data science to their work. If you are a publisher, content strategist or manage content for your organisation and have a story to tell, you may complete the speaker submission form and make a proposal by March 29, 2019.

UK Altmetric and Nature receive funding from Google Digital News Innovation - 22 Mar 2019

Data science company Altmetric and multidisciplinary science journal Nature will receive funding from the Google Digital News Innovation Fund to build a novel tool for measuring the impact of journalism.

Journalism has an impact: news stories can drive policy change, trigger a resignation or investigation, inspire social media debate or launch a field of research. While it is standard to gauge reader numbers using analytic tools, it is much more difficult to measure these types of ‘real-world’ impact. To address this, Nature and Altmetric submitted a successful application to the Google Digital News Innovation fund, part of a major Google initiative in Europe to ‘help journalism thrive in the digital age’.

With the funding, Altmetric and Nature will build a ‘change the world impact tracker’ – an innovative digital platform to track and curate the real-world impact of journalistic articles. They aim to develop article badges and dashboards displaying impact information to readers, editors, publishers and funders. This helps to demonstrate the value of journalism to readers, and helps to make the case that journalism is worth investing in.

Wiley Education Services, a division of Wiley, has entered into a partnership agreement with Michigan State University to support a set of existing and new online programs as well as a certificate, leveraging market research, marketing, recruitment, and student support services.
