Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO), US, has announced that NHS Education for Scotland has selected DynaMed as its preferred point of care resource for all NHS Scotland staff and students.
NHS Education’s Knowledge Network had offered DynaMed, as well as other point of care resources, to its users but recently selected DynaMed as the primary point of care resource due to its comprehensive coverage and frequent and reliable updates. Another contributing factor to their decision to implement DynaMed as the primary resource was due to a recent report in KLAS that rated DynaMed higher than other disease reference tools. Survey respondents indicated that DynaMed excelled in the credibility of the information it provided and in the relevance of its information.
NHS Education’s subscription to DynaMed includes EBSCO’s Nursing Reference Center and Rehabilitation Reference Center. These resources offer the best available evidence-based clinical reference tools for nursing and rehabilitation practices. These, teamed with DynaMed, offer NHS Education with a full suite of point of care resources.
DynaMed is a clinical reference tool designed for use primarily at the point of care. It contains clinically-organised summaries for more than 3,200 topics. Daily updates provide the best available evidence available to clinicians making medical decisions. DynaMed integrates with electronic health records and is available via mobile devices.
The Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), an educational and scientific computing society, has announced that the latest articles from ACM are now available from the British Library’s Document Supply service. ACM delivers resources that advance computing as a science and a profession with leading-edge publications, conferences, and career resources.
Following licence agreements between ACM and the British Library, the Library’s Document Supply service will now be able to provide electronic articles, up to and including the most recent issues.
The ACM Digital Library is the computing field's premier collection of scholarly information and articles. The licences allow the British Library to supply ACM articles through its copyright fee paid service, as well as via the International Non-commercial Document Supply (INCD) service, to support education and learning.
E-Libro, a provider of Spanish language e-books delivered on the ebrary platform, has announced that all its e-books will soon be discoverable through OCLC's WorldCat, which is projected as the world's largest library catalogue. WorldCat is a database of bibliographic information built continuously for over 40 years by OCLC and member libraries around the world.
E-Libro has also signed its 150th publisher, Editorial Grupo Destiempos, which joins a number of other Spanish language publishers. The publishers are stated to enhance e-Libro Premium, the company's flagship subscription database, in subject areas such as social science, art and human rights.
E-Libro continues to add more than 900 e-books to its growing subscription database each month. Its Premium service now contains over 48,000 titles, which can be previewed at site.ebrary.com/lib/elibro.
The CLOCKSS Archive has announced the participation of three new publishers in its digital preservation archive. The publishers are: NRC Research Press, Manchester University Press and Orbit: Writing Around Pynchon.
The NRC Research Press began as the publishing arm of the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) in 1929. In September 2010 it transitioned from NRC and the Federal Government of Canada into an independent not-for-profit organisation operating under the new name Canadian Science Publishing. Canadian Science Publishing, which continues to operate its journals under the brand NRC Research Press, publishes 15 of its own journals and provides advanced electronic publishing services to its clients.
Manchester University Press claims to be the third-largest University Press in England. MUP has a worldwide reputation for making innovative and high-quality scholarship available to the widest possible readership in both print and electronic formats, with particular strengths in the Humanities and Social Sciences. The Press currently publishes 145 new books a year and manages a portfolio of 14 journals, many of which are published on behalf of or in collaboration with learned societies and institutions.
Orbit: Writing Around Pynchon aims to publish high-quality, rigorously reviewed and innovative scholarly material on the works of Thomas Pynchon, related authors, and adjacent fields.
Academic publisher Maney Publishing, UK, has announced the launch of a membership subscriptions management service for scholarly and professional societies, institutions and associations. These services are available to those who wish to outsource the day-to-day administration and financial handling of their members’ subscriptions, especially for individuals, tasks which many volunteer societies find increasingly difficult to manage.
The tiered service can be adapted to meet specific society requirements and can save societies time and money. On offer are two levels of service - which can be customised -to help increase and sustain memberships. Maney can also enable members’ access to the online version of a Maney-published journal, as well as coordinate the despatch of printed copies.
The publisher already handles the subscriptions of individual members of a series of societies, such as the American Name Society, the International Society of Hematology, and the Society for Medieval Archaeology. Offering a self-service subscription module, Maney has the ability to handle credit cards and direct debits (and in the UK, collect information for Gift Aid for societies that are also charities).
Maney’s experienced and dedicated team will relieve societies of onerous and time-consuming work, including the need to supply mailing data or deal with subscription agents. Full financial reporting can be defined according to a society’s needs.
Academic publisher Emerald Group Publishing, UK, has announced new appointments to its Executive Board. Rebecca Marsh will become Service Development Director, leading a new division focused on enhancing services to libraries and adding further value to content for research communities, including authors and reviewers. Tony Roche joins Emerald as Publishing Director, bringing over 18 years’ publishing industry experience in editorial, marketing, and executive roles.
Prior to her new appointment, Rebecca was Emerald’s Publishing Director, during which time Emerald’s collection of journals doubled through new launch and acquisitions, while the quality of both the output and service was enhanced. She also successfully launched Emerald’s book publishing business following the acquisition of a large books programme in 2008.
During his 16 years with Elsevier, Tony’s experience included development of end-to-end publishing processes for journals, books and online products, developing effective teams across a variety of cultures, leading the business in a variety of subject communities, from management to energy and aerospace, and developing award winning publications such as Journal of Informetrics.
Open access publisher BioMed Central, UK, has announced the appointment of James du Preez of the University of the Free State, South Africa, as joint Editor-in-Chief of the journal, Biotechnology for Biofuels. He succeeds Bärbel Hahn-Hägerdal, who retired from her role at the end of June. James joins Mike Himmel, Debra Mohnen and Charles Wyman as joint Editor-in-Chief.
James’s research interests are in the field of fermentation biotechnology with a special interest in continuous (chemostat) cultures, yeast physiology and the application of microbial cells for the production of metabolites in submerged culture. James steps up to the role of Editor-in-Chief, with first-hand experience of handling peer review, as a former Associate Editor for the journal.
Biotechnology for Biofuels is an open access, peer-reviewed online journal featuring studies describing technological and operational advances in the production of biofuels from biomass.
