STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, and the Society for Vascular Surgery has announced the launch of a new quarterly journal - Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders. The inaugural issue will appear in January, 2013. Elsevier currently publishes the Journal of Vascular Surgery on behalf of the Society.
Journal of Vascular Surgery: Venous and Lymphatic Disorders will publish high quality clinical and basic scientific research, case reports, venous images, techniques, review articles, and practice management manuscripts related to all aspects of venous disease, lymphatic disease, and wound care with an emphasis on the practicing clinician. The journal will seek to provide novel and timely information to vascular surgeons, interventionalists, phlebologists, wound care specialists, and allied health professionals who treat patients presenting with venous and lymphatic disease.
The international editorial board will be led by Dr. Anton N. Sidawy and Dr. Bruce A. Perler. Dr. Sidawy is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the George Washington University in Washington, D.C. He is the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and past-president of the Society for Vascular Surgery, the Society for Clinical Vascular Surgery, and the Eastern Vascular Society.
Dr. Perler is chief of the division of vascular surgery and professor of surgery at Johns Hopkins Medicine, Baltimore. He is the Senior Editor of the Journal of Vascular Surgery and past president of the Eastern Vascular Society and the Southern Association for Vascular Surgery.
Scientific publisher Nature Publishing Group (NPG), UK, and National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Sciences (NSLC) have signed an agreement to provide long-term digital preservation of NPG’s content in Beijing.
The agreement was signed by Dr. Zhang Xiao Lin, Director of National Science Library, Chinese Academy of Science and Antoine Bocquet, Director, Asia-Pacific, Nature Publishing Group on behalf of their respective organisations.
Under the deal, the NSLC will establish and maintain an archive of Nature, the Nature research and Nature Review journals, and all NPG-owned journal current content. An archive back to 1997 will be created, and new content will be added as it is published. The archive would be made accessible to CAS institutes with nature.com site license agreements in the event that emergency or force majeure make nature.com unavailable in China. Of the 100 CAS institutes, 70 have site licences to NPG journals that will be preserved under this agreement.
NPG also ensures long-term digital preservation of its content through Portico and the not for profit CLOCKSS.
Electronic research databases provider EBSCO Publishing (EBSCO), US, has awarded two public libraries with one-year subscriptions to LibraryAware, an online programme designed to maximise libraries’ promotional resources, helping them to integrate outreach with customisable, scalable tools and resources. The winners were chosen by drawing at a LibraryAware launch party attended by more than 300 people during the Public Library Association Conference in Philadelphia.
Speakers at the event included Vice President of NoveList, Duncan Smith, who set the tone for the evening with a talk praising LibraryAware communities and their ability to create a culture of learning and exploration that enriches the lives of their residents. LibraryAware Project Lead, Nancy Dowd, discussed how this powerful tool will transform libraries’ promotional efforts. Vice President and Group Publisher of Library Journal, Ian Singer, announced Library Journal’s latest award, the LibraryAware Community Award.
The winners were Nicole Frilling, Digital Branch Librarian at Kenton County Public Library in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky and Derek Wolfgram, Deputy County Librarian at Santa Clara County Library in Los Gatos, California.

The online product offers consistent branding and professional designs, best practices and recommendations and can be integrated into popular event software and social media.

The voting members of US-based National Information Standards Organization (NISO) have approved a new project to formalise the 3M Standard Interchange Protocol (SIP) as an American National Standard. Introduced in 1993, the SIP protocol provides a mechanism for Integrated Library Systems (ILS) applications and self-service devices to communicate seamlessly to perform self-service transactions. This protocol reportedly became a de facto standard around the world, and remains the primary protocol to integrate ILS and self-service devices.
Since the protocol's inception, 3M has continued to produce updated versions of it – the most recent being version 3.0 in late 2011. A NISO Working Group will now shepherd SIP 3.0 through the standardisation process of becoming an American National Standard.

Medical information provider BMJ Group, UK, has announced the appointment of Tim Brooks, the former managing director of the Guardian News & Media, as CEO, effective October 1. He succeeds Stella Dutton, who is retiring from the company after 16 years.
The BMJ Group publishes the British Medical Journal and over 40 specialist medical journals. During Stella’s term as CEO revenues have doubled to £70 million and operating profits trebled to over £10 million. Nearly 60 percent of the BMJ Group’s revenues now come from overseas and BMJ Learning, its online continuous professional development resource for doctors, and decision support tools such as Best Practice are leaders in their field worldwide.
Brooks is currently consulting to a number of major media organisations. He is Executive Fellow in Strategy and Entrepreneurship at London Business School and a member of the UK government’s Digital Advisory Board.
Brooks has dual reporting lines to the Chairman of the BMJ Group, Dr Michael Chamberlain, and to Tony Bourne, the Chief Executive/Secretary of the BMA, which owns the BMJ Group. Stella will remain as a consultant to the BMJ Group until February next year.

ebrary, a ProQuest business, has announced a new Android app that will be freely available on Google Play this summer. The move comes less than six months after the company launched a dedicated iOS app.
ebrary’s Android and iOS apps work with e-books acquired under all of the company’s acquisition models. This includes the 75,000 titles available through Academic Complete, claimed to be the industry’s first and only aggregated e-book subscription to be designated as a CHOICE Outstanding Academic Title. The apps seek to provide optimised access to local content uploaded by libraries via DASH! (Data Sharing, Fast), a feature of Academic Complete, and other ebrary products.

Academic publisher SAGE and the British Association for Adoption & Fostering (BAAF) have announced a new agreement to publish BAAF’s journal, Adoption & Fostering, from 2013. The journal is edited by Roger Bullock, Fellow, Centre for Social Policy, The Social Research Unit at Dartington, UK.
Published quarterly, Adoption & Fostering has been at the cutting edge of debate on childcare issues for over 50 years. It claims to be the only UK journal dedicated to adoption and fostering issues, providing an international forum for academics and practitioners in social work, psychology, law, medicine, training, and caring.
