Thomson Reuters EndNote partners with Science Hack Day to expand global scientific movement - 21 May 2014
Thomson Reuters EndNote, the industry's leading software for publishing and managing bibliographies, citations and references, has announced a collaboration with Science Hack Day, a global grassroots movement aimed at empowering scientific innovation, to expand its efforts to enable scientists, engineers, programmers and designers to work together in the same physical space to nurture new scientific concepts.
Since its launch in 2010, more than 30 Science Hack Days have been held in over a dozen countries. The events are designed to connect individuals from a variety of disciplines and backgrounds, all sharing a passion for science, to work together to explore new scientific concepts and develop solutions or 'hacks.' During each event, groups compete in a friendly competition to build the best prototype based on a concept of their choice within 24 consecutive hours.
Science Hack Days are fuelled by the work of volunteers and in the past have been primarily funded by regional sponsorships and donations. As the first global sponsor, EndNote will help the movement further its goal of making science more accessible by providing funding and marketing support to increase awareness, enhance current events and spread the movement to new cities.
There are currently six Science Hack Days planned for the remainder of 2014: Medellín, Colombia, May 30 - June 1, 2014; New York City, USA, May 31 - June 1, 2014; Kerkrade, Netherlands, June 21 - 22, 2014; Antananarivo, Madagascar, August 9 - 10, 2014; San Francisco, USA, October 4 - 5, 2014; and Berlin, Germany, October 24 - 26, 2014.

Four universities in Sweden acquire Springer Book Archives - 21 May 2014
STM publisher Springer has announced that four major universities and research institutions in Sweden have adopted Springer Book Archives (SBA) Springer's retrodigitized eBooks. Chalmers University, the University of Stockholm and KTH The Royal Institute of Technology have purchased the complete English-language selection consisting of more than 56,000 titles in eleven subject collections. The University of Borås has acquired six subject collections.
A significant number of Swedish students will now gain access to tens of thousands of eBooks on Springer's online platform SpringerLink. The investments of these Swedish universities and research institutions underscore a strong digital library strategy, giving their patrons access to a broad range of high-quality eBooks.
Springer Book Archives claims to be the most comprehensive eBook collection in science, technology and medicine and totals around 110,000 eBooks of which about half are in English and half in German. It contains newly digitized titles published by Springer since its founding. This unprecedented collection of scholarly content is available without digital rights management and allows for full-text searchability. The eBooks offer a wide variety of reading options as they can be used on all devices, and can also be ordered through print on demand (POD), including MyCopy.
Frontiers launches new open-access journal - Frontiers in Robotics and AI - 21 May 2014
Frontiers, a community driven open-access publisher and research networking platform, part of Nature Publishing Group, has announced the launch of a new open-access journal - Frontiers in Robotics and AI.
Frontiers in Robotics and AI is the first open-access community journal covering the fields of robotics and artificial intelligence and joins the growing 'Frontiers in' journal series. Frontiers in Robotics and AI will make use of the unique Frontiers open-science platform for open-access publishing and research networking, which provides an equal opportunity to seek, share and create knowledge.

Articles are grouped together by year and issue, providing instant access for subscribers to all articles published in RCN Publishing journals, including the latest journal issue. Library resources provider EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) has announced that Bibliothèque de la Sorbonne, administratively attached to the Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, one of the most prestigious universities in France, has selected EBSCO Discovery Service™ (EDS) via Innovative's Encore Duet as its discovery platform. The Bibliothèque de la Sorbonne has been an Innovative customer since 2001 as well as an EBSCO customer for about the same time, so the partnership between EDS and Innovative made EDS via Encore Duet the perfect solution.
The Bibliothèque de la Sorbonne, which is a very well known French inter-university library, reopened in its historical building after three years of renovation works. With over two million books, the library of Sorbonne is one of the richest French academic libraries for its collections on humanities.
The library was looking for a discovery solution that would fit the needs of its public, mainly researchers. Dade Medical College and University of Southernmost Florida set to launch Southernmost University Press - 21 May 2014
