US SAGE Publishing launches SAGE Business Cases - 20 Apr 2016

Academic publisher SAGE Publishing has announced the launch of SAGE Business Cases, the first comprehensive business case collection created specifically for the library market. The discipline-wide collection of case studies enables students and researchers to analyse real-world challenges and take on the roles of decision-makers in all types and sizes of businesses.

SAGE Business Cases is launching with 1,000 case studies across the business and management spectrum, including marketing, operations management, small business & entrepreneurship, international business, human resource management and many more. The cases come in a variety of formats and lengths and can be used for a range of pedagogical needs, from illustrating core business and management skills in the classroom to independent student projects. Many cases include instructor-only teaching notes to ensure effective classroom use while saving time for faculty.

To meet the needs of global business faculty and students, the collection comes from a variety of sources: proprietary SAGE cases; specially commissioned peer-reviewed cases from leading academics, and cases from key university and association partnerships.

The collection can be accessed by students and faculty campus-wide, providing a simpler alternative to complex per-case purchases and licensing agreements. Offered on SAGE's digital library platform, SAGE Knowledge, the cases are integrated with SAGE's journal, book, video, and reference content, enhancing discovery. SAGE Business Cases is also complementary to other SAGE Business & Management content, such as SAGE Business Stats, a statistical database that supports research and curricula, and SAGE Business Researcher, a biweekly collection of in-depth reports on the most pressing topics in business and management.

SAGE Business Cases will expand to include 2,500 cases by 2018.

US ACRL becomes key dissemination partner for the NMC Horizon Report > Library Edition - 20 Apr 2016

The Association of College & Research Libraries (ACRL) has joined the network of partners behind the NMC Horizon Report > Library Edition. Since the inaugural report in 2014, the academic and research library-focused edition of the NMC Horizon Report series has been a collaboration between the NMC, the University of Applied Sciences (HTW) Chur, the German National Library of Science and Technology (TIB) Hannover, and ETH-Bibliothek Zürich. In their new role as key dissemination partner, ACRL will help produce and distribute the NMC Horizon Report > 2017 Library Edition. The release is scheduled for the ACRL 2017 Conference, to be held March 22-25, 2017, in Baltimore, Maryland.

This edition leverages the renowned NMC Horizon Project model that extends the research formally into the world of academic and research libraries. An expert panel will identify the key trends, significant challenges, and developments in technology that will be important to the field worldwide over the next five years. The 2014 and 2015 reports have generated more than 1.7 million downloads across nearly 200 countries. ACRL will increase the visibility of this work given their network of more than 11,000 academic and research librarians. Their bi-annual conference attracts thousands of library professionals across the globe that are interested in the latest research and analysis to inform their strategic planning.

The format of the report is designed to provide library leaders with more in-depth insight into how the trends and challenges are accelerating and impeding the adoption of technology, along with their implications for policy, leadership, and practice. The subject matter in this report will be identified through a qualitative research process designed and conducted by the NMC that engages an international body of experts in libraries, education, technology, research, business, and other fields around a set of research questions. The NMC Horizon Report > 2017 Library Edition will detail the areas in which these experts are in strong agreement.

The report, like all others in the series, will be made available online, free of charge, and released under a Creative Commons license to facilitate its widespread use, easy duplication, and broad distribution.

US Concordia University in Montreal becomes first Quebec university to adopt Get It Now - 20 Apr 2016

Copyright Clearance Center (CCC) and Copibec have announced a partnership with Concordia University in Montreal, which becomes the first Quebec university to use Get It Now. This service, already adopted by about 350 US higher education institutions, gives CEGEPs and universities access to millions of scientific articles, most of which can subsequently be copied under licenses offered by Copibec to the education sector.

According to Andréa Harland, Head of Interlibrary Loans of Concordia University, Concordia's Libraries subscribed to Get It Now have more options in providing resources to their researchers. The service offers libraries of CEGEPs and universities instant access to leading publishers' content, and at affordable costs. This innovative solution integrated into the library's catalogue makes ordering items easier and includes a dashboard that allows librarians to monitor the volume of purchases and generate real-time reports.

Get It Now, combined with Copibec's reproduction license, is a robust solution to quickly and cost-effectively obtain unsubscribed journal articles and legally share that content for research and scholarship.
