US Elsevier to showcase new Neuroscience books at 10th FENS Forum for Neuroscience - 20 Jun 2016

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of four new and updated neuroscience atlases, including MRI/DTI Atlas of the Rat Brain and Atlas of the Human Brain, Fourth Edition.

Along with these highly anticipated books, Elsevier will offer access to eight preview articles from its new Reference Module in Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Psychology in booth # 70 at the 10th Federation of European Neuroscience Societies (FENS) Forum for Neuroscience, July 2-6, in Copenhagen, Denmark.

On July 5, from 1-2 pm, FENS Forum attendees are invited to visit the Elsevier booth for a 'meet and greet' with authors George Paxinos, Gulgun Sengul and Edgar Garcia-Rill. Everyone stopping by the booth during that time will be entered in a drawing to receive a signed copy of one of the authors' books. Elsevier publishers will be available to discuss book proposals as well.

Also at the booth, Elsevier books will be discounted 30 percent and more, with free global shipping. Elsevier will distribute coupons to download A Primer for a Career in Neuroscience, a free e-publication for neuroscience students. Complimentary copies of Elsevier journals and Cell Press journals will be available while they last, as will daily giveaways such as USB flash drives, coffee mugs, book marks and tote bags.

New neuroscience books include: MRI/DTI Atlas of the Rat Brain by George Paxinos, Charles Watson, Evan Calabrese, Alexandra Badea and G. Allan Johnson; Guide to Research Techniques in Neuroscience, Second Edition by Matt Carter and Jennifer Shieh; Atlas of the Human Brain, 4th Edition by Juergen Mai, Milan Majtanik and George Paxinos; and The Prefrontal Cortex, Fifth Edition by Joaquin Fuster.

Announced last month, Elsevier's Reference Module in Neuroscience and Biobehavioral Psychology offers a one-stop solution for researchers, educators and students. It provides a cohesive and authoritative resource on ScienceDirect that is continuously reviewed and regularly updated by experts to reflect the latest developments in the field. Researchers and clinicians using the Reference Module will have access to interdisciplinary subjects including behavioural neuroscience; mental health; the human brain; clinical psychology; psychotherapy; applied psychology; infant and early childhood development; movement disorders; and sleep. When it is launched in November 2016, the Module will contain more than 3,000 articles from 19 Elsevier reference works.

In order to meet content needs in neuroscience, Elsevier uses proprietary tools to identify the gaps in coverage of the topics. Editorial teams strategically fill those gaps with content written by key influencers in the field, giving students, faculty and researchers the content they need to answer challenging questions and improve outcomes. These new books, which will educate the next generation of neuroscientists and provide critical foundational content for information professionals, are key examples of how Elsevier is enabling science to drive innovation.

Australia RDA and ICSU-WDS announce new global framework for linking publications and datasets - 20 Jun 2016

The Research Data Alliance (RDA) and the International Council for Science World Data System (ICSU-WDS) has announced a new global framework for linking publications and datasets. The Scholix framework - Scholarly Link Exchange - represents a set of aspirational principles and practical guidelines to support a global information ecosystem around links between scholarly literature and research data.

The framework aims for a seamless exchange of information about literature and related data, thereby facilitating re-use, reproducibility, and transparent evaluation of science. The Scholix framework consists of a conceptual and information model, with standards, guidelines and options for encoding and exchange protocols. The three core objectives of the framework are: Increase visibility and discoverability of data and articles; Place data in context to enable re-use; and Support credit attribution mechanisms.

The Scholix framework is the output of a working group led by RDA and ICSU-WDS and a number of key global players in research information including, among others, Crossref, DataCite, OpenAIRE, PANGAEA, International STM Association, Australian National Data Service, and Elsevier.

Organisations such as Crossref, DataCite, and OpenAIRE, have already started to develop services that follow the Scholix framework.

The Scholix framework is the output of the joint ICSU-WDS/RDA working group on Data Publishing Services. A follow up group is being launched to implement and extend the framework. Participation is open and welcome: http://www.scholix.org/participate.

US Journal of the American Society of Nephrology retains high impact factor for 2015 - 20 Jun 2016

The Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (JASN) retains a very prominent position in the field of nephrology in Impact Factor for 2015, with a score of 8.5 according to Journal Citation Reports® (JCR). This Impact Factors reflects the average annual number of citations in 2015 to articles published in a journal during 2013 and 2014.

Established in 1990, the monthly JASN is the leading kidney journal in the world, read and referenced more than any other publication in the field. Physicians and scientists read the journal to learn about the latest advances in renal disease, including dialysis, transplantation, immunology, hemodynamics, bone disease, clinical nephrology, epidemiology and outcomes.

JCR also reported that the society's Clinical Journal of the American Society of Nephrology (CJASN) saw an Impact Factor increase to 4.7 for 2015.

One of the most widely read and referenced kidney journals, CJASN publishes high - quality research and reviews relevant to inpatient and outpatient care of individuals with kidney disease. Physicians read CJASN to learn about the most important clinical outcomes in kidney medicine, dialysis, metabolism and critical care.

JCR evaluates the world's leading journals, with quantifiable, statistical information based on citation data. Then compiling articles' cited references, JCR measures research influence and impact at the journal and category levels, and shows the relationship between citing and cited journals.
