US Elsevier announces publication of Encyclopedia of Spectroscopy and Spectrometry, third edition - 24 Oct 2016

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of the third edition of its major reference work, Encyclopedia of Spectroscopy and Spectrometry, edited by John Lindon, George Tranter and David Koppenaal. The updated work provides authoritative and comprehensive coverage of all aspects of spectroscopy and closely related subjects that use the same fundamental principles, including mass spectrometry, imaging techniques and applications. It includes the history, theoretical background, details of instrumentation and technology, and current applications of the key areas of spectroscopy. Elsevier also announced five other new chemistry and chemical engineering books.

The third edition of Encyclopedia of Spectroscopy and Spectrometry includes more than 80 new articles across the field, complementing those from the previous edition, which have been brought up-to-date to reflect the latest trends. Topics covered in this edition include atomic spectroscopy, electronic spectroscopy, fundamentals in spectroscopy, high-energy spectroscopy, magnetic resonance, mass spectrometry, spatially-resolved spectroscopic analysis, and vibrational, rotational and Raman spectroscopies.

The six new chemistry and chemical engineering titles are: Encyclopedia of Spectroscopy and Spectrometry, Third Edition edited by John Lindon, George Tranter and David Koppenaal; Advances in Organometallic Chemistry edited by Pedro Pérez; NMR of Paramagnetic Molecules: Applications to Metallobiomolecules and Models, Second Edition by Ivano Bertini, Claudio Luchinat, Giacomo Parigi and Enrico Ravera; Advanced Data Analysis and Modelling in Chemical Engineering by Denis Constales, Gregory Yablonsky, Dagmar D'hooge, Joris Thybaut and Guy Marin; Advances in Clinical Chemistry, Volume 73 edited by Gregory Makowski; and Applications of Time-of-Flight and Orbitrap Mass Spectrometry in Environmental, Food, Doping, and Forensic Analysis edited by Sandra Perez, Peter Eichhorn and Damia Barcelo.

In order to meet content needs in chemistry and chemical engineering, Elsevier uses proprietary tools to identify the gaps in coverage of the topics. Editorial teams strategically fill those gaps with content written by key influencers in the field, giving students, faculty and researchers the content they need to answer challenging questions and improve outcomes. These new books, which will educate the next generation of chemists and chemical engineers, and provide critical foundational content for information professionals, are key examples of how Elsevier is enabling science to drive innovation.

UK Swedish Library Consortium selects Ex Libris Alma library management platform and Primo discovery solution - 24 Oct 2016

Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, has announced that the Swedish Library Consortium (GSLG) has chosen the Ex Libris Alma® library management platform and Primo® discovery solution. Consortium members Linnaeus University, the University of Borås and Örebro University will benefit from the openness of the Alma and Primo solutions to streamline resource management workflows, improve discoverability and enhance the teaching and learning experience.

The three universities currently have separate systems and processes for managing and discovering electronic and print resources, and consequently, staff and users cannot readily view information for all collections. In addition, the lack of integration between their library system and components of the discovery interface complicates the workflows for e-resources and print materials.

The members of the consortium will use Alma and Primo to streamline workflows for all resources and to support the resources' entire life cycle, from acquisition through access, licensing, and administration to support, discovery, and evaluation.
