UK Emerald celebrates 6th annual High Usage Awards - 21 Feb 2017

Academic publisher Emerald Publishing is celebrating the top 20 international academic institutions with the highest downloads of its eJournal content for the 6th consecutive year.

The Emerald High Usage Awards celebrate the relationship between Emerald and each winning institution; all of which have access to a growing collection of over 300 journals covering business and management research, and including a wide range of other subject areas Emerald specializes in, including health and social care; education; and engineering.

Universiti Teknologi MARA is once again the institution with the highest number of eJournal downloads, with over 960,000 throughout 2016. The Egyptian Knowledge Bank (EKB) Data Centre - the world's largest digital library - is a new entry, straight in at number two with over 440,000 downloads; and this year, Universiti Utara Malaysia features at number three, with almost 300,000 downloads.

Along with the EKB Data Centre, Universitas Trisakti, Universitas Gadjah Mada, and the University of the West of England are newcomers to the high usage list, featuring at second, ninth, fifteenth and seventeenth, respectively.

Along with the top three institutions located in Malaysia and Egypt, institutions from the UK; Australia; United States of America; Indonesia; Pakistan and Thailand have also won an Emerald High Usage Award.

UK Cardiff University to use OCLC Sustainable Collection Services to redefine library collections - 21 Feb 2017

OCLC has announced that Cardiff University, one of Britain's leading research universities, will use OCLC Sustainable Collection Services (SCS) to analyze and inform decisions about consolidating print collections in preparation for a move to a new purpose-built library in a few years.

Collectively, Cardiff University Libraries hold approximately 1.3 million catalogued items. A collection of 595,000 print monographs will form the basis of this analysis. SCS GreenGlass, a web-based analysis application, will support Cardiff University in assessing how best to use the space of the new library building, informing decisions around storage and retention.

The work will include identification of books that are scarcely held in other libraries and those that are surplus to requirements in the University, such as duplicates. This will require the development and modelling of complex criteria related to use, age of material, recency of circulation and other factors.

Frontiers in Medicine has launched a new specialty section – Translational Medicine. The section is led by Prof. Hans-Dieter Volk, Director of the Institute for Medical Immunology at the Medical Faculty (Charité) of Humboldt University, Berlin and Berlin-Brandenburg Center for Regenerative Therapies (BCRT). Prof. Volk's key research area is clinical immunology, specifically the immunology of infection, transplantation regenerative medicine and allograft rejection.

This new section of Frontiers in Medicine on Translational Medicine aims to bring together the stakeholders of the field, as editors, reviewers and authors, to provide constructive feedback to one another with the goal of further enabling the translation of basic research findings and clinical observations into meaningful improvements in patient outcomes.

The Translational Medicine section of Frontiers in Medicine forms a pivotal part of the new vision for the journal. The journal publishes the latest research results and medical knowledge that facilitate the translation of scientific advances into new therapies or diagnostic tools.

The section is now open for submission. Those interested to join the editorial board, propose a thematic collection of articles, or submit a manuscript may direct all inquiries to the Editorial Office at medicine@frontiersin.org.
