US MAP Health Management selects Wolters Kluwer’s Health Language terminology management solutions to promote secure exchange of sensitive patient data - 17 Aug 2017

Wolters Kluwer Health has announced that MAP Health Management® has chosen Health Language® to improve interoperability and support more compliant data exchange within its behavioural health population management platform. By integrating the terminology and data management solution, MAP enhances analytics capabilities for its clients, specifically addressing the sharing of sensitive patient information.

Population health management remains a focal point of industry efforts to improve outcomes and lower costs, requiring accurate and complete health information exchange and analytics. Especially in the behavioural health sector, providers must adequately address the nuances of sharing and protecting sensitive patient information—a category defined by high disclosure risks and often associated with mental health, genetics, substance abuse, reproductive care, sexually-transmitted diseases and other sensitive conditions.

MAP is using Health Language interoperability and mapping solutions to establish a single source of truth, promote interoperability and optimise analytics for regulatory and value-based programs. Specifically, MAP will be leveraging Sensitivity Codes to identify and filter sensitive information to keep it from leaving a patient's trusted provider organisation. These include nearly 40,000 clinical and claims codes covering Substance Abuse, Mental Health, Sexually Transmitted Diseases and Family Planning groups. This approach will enable MAP to meet and exceed legal and regulatory standards and hospital policies, while also meeting clinical and financial outcomes.

MAP delivers technology-enabled solutions, including telehealth and other remote engagement devices and applications that improve clinical and financial outcomes for chronic behavioural health disorders such as Substance Use Disorder. Its robust ecosystem of solutions empowers treatment providers, health insurance companies, health systems and patients with the right data at the right time to improve clinical and financial outcomes.

US University of Montana celebrates first anniversary of campusM mobile solution implementation - 17 Aug 2017

Ex Libris®, a ProQuest company, has announced that the Ex Libris campusM™ mobile solution and portal has powered the University of Montana's campus app for a full year, with resounding success.

The University of Montana (UM), an early North American adopter of the internationally popular campusM solution, launched the app in August 2016 and has received nearly 12,000 registrations in just one year. The solution's ease of use and robust administration interface led to a rapid implementation brought about by only a small core team of four people, a few student employees, and IT colleagues across campus to assist with some of the development.

According to analytics available through the campusM solution, the most popular services and functionality provided by the app include the LMS integration with Moodle, food menus through the Food Zoo option, and personalized class schedules and grades. Food Zoo, which was developed with the campusM App Extension Kit (AEK), displays cafeteria menus, nutritional information, and daily updates for students.

In a particularly successful campaign, the UM team used the campusM app, leveraging its push notifications mechanism, to host voting in the annual student government elections. This voting system, which resulted in an extremely positive turnout, replaced the Ellucian Banner® system used previously.

Upcoming developments for the UM campusM app include a tutoring service to help connect students with tutors on campus, an International Development Studies (IDS) service to connect students in the IDS program with scholarship, internship, and program information, and integration with the university's Cascade Content Management System so that content owners can more easily manage their service content.

Four key challenge areas pertaining to policy implementation were the focus of the workshop. SPARC Europe managed the session on How institutions can engage more with researchers to enable more Open Access and Open Data sharing.

More than 20 participants from across Europe contributed to a lively discussion of ideas and experiences on the topic. Among the various approaches mentioned, the discussion included: involving researchers in publisher negotiations, better informing them of costs, creating competitions to acquire new use case ideas and to advocate for more open data, using researchers as ambassadors or champions, informing and engaging at various creative events and collaborating with them to simplify their work processes.
