UK SAGE Publishing acquires journal portfolio from Wichtig - 09 Jan 2018

Academic publisher SAGE Publishing has announced the purchase of the full portfolio of journals from international, independent STM publisher, Wichtig. The acquisition marks a significant milestone in SAGE's science, technology and medical (STM) publishing program and the development of its offerings across clinical medicine and bioengineering.

Wichtig Publishing was established in Milan, Italy, by the nephrologist Diego Brancaccio over 40 years ago, with an ambition to publish niche specialty medical journals and books. The publishing portfolio covers topics such as nephrology, oncology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, gynecology, urology, and biomaterials.

The first issues with SAGE will publish January 2018. The journal list is available online at https://uk.sagepub.com/en-gb/eur/wichtig.

As part of its new Publishers and Service Providers Program, the Library Publishing Coalition (LPC) is releasing a new resource for the library publishing community: the Publishers and Service Providers List.

The list is a place where any organisation eligible for the larger program (non- and for-profit publishers and service providers that work with, or provide services of interest to, library publishers) can indicate its interest in working with library publishers.

While new enquiries will continue to be added to the list, it currently includes organisations such as: bepress, BiblioLabs, Project MUSE, Overleaf, Public Knowledge Project, PKP Publishing Services, Scholastica, Ubiquity Press, and Veruscript.

The LPC is an independent, community-led membership association. The purpose of the LPC is to support an evolving, distributed range of library publishing practices and to further the interests of libraries involved in publishing activities.

Switzerland Frontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics names Prof. Charles K. Chui as new Field Chief Editor - 09 Jan 2018

Frontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics has announced Professor Charles K. Chui as its new Field Chief Editor.

Professor Chui is currently Research Professor of Mathematics at the Hong Kong Baptist University, while holding a courtesy appointment as Consulting Professor in the Statistics Department of Stanford University. He is also Distinguished Professor Emeritus at the Texas A&M University. His current research interest is in the discipline of computational and applied mathematics, with focus on: time-frequency analysis, mathematics of super-resolution, as well as signal and image manipulation, processing and visualisation, particularly for real-world applications, including recovery of point-source data in motion and understanding of complex data on (data-determined) manifolds in a high-dimensional ambient space.

With extensive experiences from working in the Silicon Valley high-tech industry and from contributing to JPEG-2000, MPEG-4 and DICOM standardisation, Prof. Chui considers applied mathematics and statistics to be fundamental to technological and industrial innovations, and believes that the future challenge in applied mathematics is the development of rigorous mathematical theory, along with effective methods, computational schemes and efficient algorithms that are applicable to solving real world problems.

According to Prof. Chui, as a multidisciplinary open-access journal, Frontiers in Applied Mathematics and Statistics provides an ideal platform for disseminating and communicating scientific knowledge and impactful discoveries to both academic and industrial researchers worldwide.

Leading an international editorial board, Prof. Chui will oversee and guide the strategic development of the journal for the next years.
