Netherland Russian Foundation for Basic Research signs new agreement for continued access to Elsevier’s ScienceDirect - 08 Aug 2018

A new agreement gives Russian researchers continued access to ScienceDirect - Elsevier's full-text platform of peer-reviewed scientific, technical and medical literature, with interactive tools to find the most relevant information.

The national license agreement provides coverage for nearly the entire Russian research community. It was signed by the Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR), which has supported research and educational organisations in Russia by providing access to high-quality Elsevier journals for more than 10 years.

As an information analytics business, Elsevier continues to enhance ScienceDirect by creating tools and functionalities to help researchers improve their performance and stay informed about the latest developments in related fields. The current subscription also includes access to 5,000 Elsevier books to support multidisciplinary research in 24 subject fields.

US EBSCO’s GOBI Library Solutions and ByWater Solutions partnership to help Koha libraries - 08 Aug 2018

A new partnership between GOBI® Library Solutions from EBSCO (GOBI Library Solutions), a division of EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO), and ByWater Solutions is aimed at helping Koha libraries. Libraries using the Koha Open Source ILS are now able to use new functionality to streamline the acquisitions process. The GobiAPI Plug-in, which allows Koha systems to fully integrate with the GOBI platform in real-time, will now facilitate the immediate transfer of bibliographic and order data.

The result of this partnership is the ability for Koha users to easily search for e-book and print titles in the extensive GOBI online catalogue. All orders placed in GOBI will be automatically delivered to Koha, creating a brief bibliographic and order record in the open source ILS. The plug-in, which will work on Koha Version 17.05 and higher, will further enhance the workflow process and make it easier and more efficient for customers to locate titles and place orders.

This development is a result of an agreement between ByWater Solutions, the American University of Rome and EBSCO. GOBI customers interested in learning more and setting up the workflow should contact their GOBI representative or view the plug-in specification on GitHub.

US RedLink upgrades Publisher Dashboard, announces enhanced product view - 08 Aug 2018

RedLink recently announced the launch of a significant upgrade to its popular usage data analytics system, Publisher Dashboard.

Publisher Dashboard helps publishers see what they're missing by providing intuitive visualisations and powerful tools for analysis of customer online usage, cost, and renewal data. By highlighting trends in full text usage and denials by discipline, publication date, title, and usage by consortia, Publisher Dashboard makes identifying opportunities and risks simple and fast. With a cloud-based interface available 24/7, sales teams and sales agents can be even more effective with access to data by territory and by customer.

The newly enhanced Product View makes it even easier to review usage at the product level, identifying top institutions, countries, and usage patterns over time. Products can be compared, and the data and visualisations easily exported or saved. Sales, Marketing, Editors and editorial staff will value the ability to review the product portfolio both at the top level, and with the ability to drill down in detail to see trends and make comparisons. This significant enhancement has been rolled out to current Publisher Dashboard customers automatically.

US Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists selects WorldShare Management Services - 08 Aug 2018

Non-profit global library cooperative OCLC has announced that the Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists has selected OCLC's WorldShare Management Services (WMS), an integrated suite of cloud-based library management applications.

For the first time, they will have a discovery solution in place that allows the entire collection to be fully accessible. This will not only enable the anaesthetists and trainees to more easily access the resources and gain greater benefit from the ANZCA Library, but it will also free up valuable library staff time as they continue to grow the library service.

The Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists joins more than 600 libraries worldwide that have chosen WMS as their preferred library services platform.

UK Cochrane redesigns its online platform to guide health decision-making across the world - 08 Aug 2018

Cochrane has announced that the Cochrane Library, which provides high-quality, independently produced evidence to inform healthcare decision-making, has been redesigned and enhanced to improve user experience and functionality.

Cochrane is a global independent network of researchers, professionals, patients, carers, and people interested in health. Cochrane contributors and groups produce high-quality systematic reviews, which collate and summarise the best available evidence on the effects of interventions, to inform decisions about health. Cochrane Reviews are recognised internationally as representing a gold standard for high-quality, trusted information, and are published in the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, one of the databases within the Cochrane Library.

The new online platform, designed in collaboration with Cochrane's publisher Wiley and built by the technology platform provider HighWire, includes several features that will improve the user experience for people whose preferred language is not English, including improved visibility of non-English content, a new Spanish language homepage, and the ability to search in different languages. The new Cochrane Library also delivers a series of improved design features and functionality and allows users to search across varying content types, including Cochrane Reviews and Protocols, CENTRAL trials reports, Cochrane Clinical Answers, Editorials, Special Collections, and other systematic reviews from Epistemonikos, a collaborative, multilingual database of health evidence.
