US AIP Publishing and the China Academy of Engineering Physics announce publishing partnership - 05 Nov 2018

AIP Publishing, a wholly owned not-for-profit subsidiary of the American Institute of Physics (AIP), has announced a new partnership with the Publishing Center of China Academy of Engineering Physics (CAEP), to publish Matter and Radiation at Extremes (MRE). MRE, a peer-reviewed Open Access journal, will launch on AIP Publishing's Scitation platform on January 1, 2019.

AIP Publishing will make its full suite of publishing services available to CAEP, providing support from submission through to publication, including subject-matter expert language editing for all accepted manuscripts. Because half of MRE's current submissions originate in China, providing such author services as English-language editing will enable more researchers to bring their work to the world stage, boosting citations and increasing the journal's impact.

MRE publishes original research and comprehensive and in-depth review papers in all areas of experimental and theoretical physics on matter and radiation at extremes. Its scope aligns well with the AIP Publishing journals program and adds a valuable title to its gold open access portfolio, which includes AIP Advances, APL Bioengineering, APL Photonics, APL Materials, and Structural Dynamics.

US ACS names Dr. Lynne S. Taylor as new editor-in-chief of Molecular Pharmaceutics - 05 Nov 2018

The American Chemical Society (ACS) Division of Publications has named Dr. Lynne S. Taylor of the Purdue University College of Pharmacy as the next editor-in-chief of Molecular Pharmaceutics. The journal is the Society’s high-impact publication for original research that contributes significantly to the molecular mechanistic understanding of drug delivery and drug-delivery systems. Taylor will succeed Dr. Gordon L. Amidon of the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy in early 2019. Amidon has served as the journal's editor-in-chief since its inception in 2003.

Taylor joined the faculty of Purdue University in the department of industrial and physical pharmacy in 2003, where she currently serves as a Retter professor of pharmacy. Her research focuses on enhancing drug delivery through optimising and understanding the physicochemical properties of drugs and excipients - in particular, amorphous solid dispersions used to improve oral delivery of water-soluble drugs.

Molecular Pharmaceutics publishes theoretical and experimental peer-reviewed communications, full-length research papers, brief articles, and critical reviews in all areas of drug discovery and development. With a 2017 Impact Factor of 4.556, the journal is among the most-cited in the field. Taylor currently serves as an editorial advisory board member for the journal, and has published over 40 papers in Molecular Pharmaceutics. She has also been an author and reviewer for several other prominent ACS journals, including the Journal of the American Chemical Society, Journal of Physical Chemistry and Analytical Chemistry.

UK Heteroatom Chemistry journal joins Wiley-Hindawi partnership - 05 Nov 2018

Hindawi has announced that the Heteroatom Chemistry journal will join the Wiley-Hindawi partnership. Authors will now have the benefit of having their articles free to read without subscription.

Heteroatom Chemistry brings together a broad, interdisciplinary group of chemists who work with compounds containing main-group elements of groups 13 through 17 of the Periodic Table, and certain other related elements. The fundamental reactivity under investigation should, in all cases, be concentrated about the heteroatoms. It does not matter whether the compounds being studied are acyclic or cyclic; saturated or unsaturated; monomeric, polymeric or solid state in nature; inorganic, organic, or naturally occurring, so long as the heteroatom is playing an essential role.

Computational, experimental, and combined studies are equally welcome. In addition to original research articles on heteroatom chemistry, the journal welcomes focused review articles that examine the state of the art, identify emerging trends, and suggest future directions for developing fields.

US CLOCKSS formalises its Succession Plan to ensure perpetual preservation - 05 Nov 2018

CLOCKSS has announced that it has formalised its Succession Plan to ensure the enduring survival of the scholarly content it preserves.

Four of CLOCKSS's twelve library nodes have agreed to continue to preserve the digital content that is preserved in CLOCKSS, if the organisation were to cease to exist. In that unlikely event, Stanford Libraries (US), Humboldt University (Germany), the University of Edinburgh (UK), and the University of Alberta Libraries (Canada) would take over the responsibility and the organisation for running the LOCKSS software across the CLOCKSS content, to continue preservation for the future.

The CLOCKSS Board – including twelve academic libraries and twelve academic publishers – has endorsed this plan, which also has a broader community of support among its 260 participating publishers and 300 supporting libraries.

The CLOCKSS Succession Plan is part of its Trusted Repository Audit Checklist (TRAC) certification by the Center for Research Libraries.
