US Elsevier to showcase its diagnostic decision support solution, STATdx«, at the RSNA Annual Meeting - 21 Nov 2018

Elsevier, the information analytics business specialising in science and health, will showcase its industry leading diagnostic decision support solution, STATdx«, at the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) Annual Meeting, taking place at McCormick Place in Chicago, IL, November 25-30, 2018.

STATdx, written by renowned radiologists in each subspecialty and widely regarded as the 'gold standard' of radiology reference solutions, increases accuracy and confidence in diagnosing complex imaging cases and includes more than 4,000 common and complex diagnoses, 200,000 expert-selected and annotated image examples, 20,000 easily sortable patient cases with cine clips for select topics and much more.

Up to 20 percent of radiology reports result in a nonspecific, incorrect or delayed diagnosis. Results from a new study with practicing radiologists and radiology residents found that STATdx helps reduce diagnostic errors and is especially valuable when diagnosing rare or complex imaging cases. In fact, the radiologists who used STATdx had a 19 percent reduction in diagnostic error; and a 37 percent reduction for the most difficult case.

Now, STATdx users with an annual CME subscription can earn CME credit for searches performed in the last three years - an increase from the previous look back period of one year. Users can earn credits throughout the workday by using STATdx's expert differential lists to identify additional diseases to consider, investigate patient case examples and follow up on the latest journal articles. Elsevier will also offer special RSNA discounts on STATdx for individual and group subscriptions, which will be valid for two weeks after the show, including selected Elsevier books, such as the new editions of Caffey's Pediatric Diagnostic Imaging, Essentials of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, Muller's Imaging of the Chest, and more.

Elsevier will showcase STATdx and its books at booth #1104.

US IEEE announces retraction of 29 articles published in IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility from 2017 to 2018 - 21 Nov 2018

Technical professional organisation IEEE is retracting 29 articles that were published in IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility from 2017 to 2018 because of violations of IEEE policy discovered in the peer review process of those articles. IEEE requires strict adherence to its policies, and will issue retractions when warranted.

In addition, the IEEE Board of Directors has established a committee to examine all aspects of peer review practice across the organisation and make recommendations for improvement. The findings of the committee will be published upon the conclusion of the committee's review.

Earlier this year, IEEE received an allegation of misconduct in the peer review process for IEEE Transactions on Electromagnetic Compatibility. An extensive investigation found evidence of systematic violation of IEEE's policies governing peer review of articles. Three volunteer editors identified during the investigation as involved in the misconduct have been permanently excluded from IEEE membership. They have been prohibited from publishing with IEEE in the future and no longer hold any positions on an IEEE publication.

US CCCĺs ┴lvaro Garcia Neto to address how artificial intelligence impacts discoverability at 2018 BioData World Congress - 21 Nov 2018

Copyright Clearance Center, Inc. (CCC) has announced that Vice President of Engineering and Professional Services ┴lvaro Garcia Neto will be speaking at BioData World Congress 2018 on how Artificial Intelligence (AI) and powerful federated search engines can improve discoverability for researchers and provide better results.

With 2.5 million scientific papers published annually (and growing), researchers today are overwhelmed by published information. However, the mismatch between the amount of published information and the ability to consume it creates a serious discoverability problem that hampers knowledge-based enterprises. Standard AI techniques have been used across industries for years, and those same techniques can enable federated search to be context-aware and surface results that are personalised.

At CCC, Garcia Neto is responsible for driving the design and implementation of advanced technology to empower customers with sophisticated knowledge management solutions, enabling them to integrate, organize, enrich, and mine the vast amounts of information within their ever-increasing digital assets.

The session, titled 'Answering the Unasked Question - How AI Impacts Discoverability- is scheduled for November 29, 2018 at 14:30 hrs at Basel Congress Center, Basel, Switzerland.

Italy Kore University of Enna selects OCLC WorldShare Management Services as its library management platform - 21 Nov 2018

The Kore University of Enna (Universitß Kore di Enna) has selected OCLC WorldShare Management Services as its cloud-based library management system.

WorldShare Management Services (WMS) provides all applications needed to manage a library, including acquisitions, circulation, resource sharing, metadata and electronic resource management, and a discovery service for library users. WMS also includes a range of reports that help libraries better understand their activities and track key metrics over time.

The Kore University of Enna (UKE) was established by the Italian Government as a Free non-State University in 2005. It is one of only 18 private universities in Italy. Aerospace Engineering and Earthquake Engineering are both important areas of focus for the institution, offering Laboratory facilities and advanced teaching technologies for which UKE is renowned.

By adding their records to WorldCat, Kore University of Enna will increase the visibility of these collections around the world and support a variety of network services, such as global resource sharing. As part of the OCLC cooperative and with the WorldCat data as its foundation, WMS will enable the university to draw on this collaborative data and the work of libraries worldwide for more efficient workflows.
