US Elsevier and LogicStream Health collaborate to deliver nurse documentation optimisation solutions - 08 Aug 2019

Elsevier, a global information analytics business specialising in science and health, and LogicStream Health, a leading provider of clinical process improvement and control software, will collaborate to meet health systems’ needs for optimising their nursing practice and documentation.

Nurses are burdened with heavy documentation responsibilities, particularly into electronic health records (EHRs). A recent study found that nurses on average document one data point every minute and spend 19 to 35 percent of practice time documenting care. Capturing and making sense of that content, and alleviating some of that burden through smarter documentation, will save time and effort for nurses and improve patient care.

Elsevier and LogicStream Health are tackling the problem of nurse documentation burden together by closely aligning their products: LogicStream Health’s Clinical Process Improvement and Control Software Solutions and Elsevier’s Care Planning.

LogicStream Health’s Clinical Process Improvement and Control Software Solutions offers hospital and clinic staff an efficient and effective way to manage their nursing flowsheets and measure their effectiveness for the clinical care being delivered.

Elsevier’s Care Planning, the Category Leader for Clinical Decision Support: Care Plans and Order Sets in the Best in KLAS®: Software & Services Report for three straight years, is the industry’s only EHR-based care planning solution that combines the patient story, more than 600 evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and standardized assessments into one patient-centered plan of care across all care settings and disciplines.

US VIVA and Wiley sign progressive new agreement to drive Open Access - 08 Aug 2019

John Wiley and Sons Inc. and The Virtual Library of Virginia (VIVA), Virginia’s academic library consortium, have signed a comprehensive agreement which combines open access publishing funds with their journal subscriptions - the first of its kind in North America.

The two-year pilot utilises the Wiley Open Access Account solution to allow VIVA researchers to publish in fully gold open access journals using a central fund for article publication charges (APCs). This pivotal agreement reflects both Wiley’s and VIVA’s dedication to moving deliberately towards a more sustainable and open access environment. This pilot will allow VIVA and its members to have greater visibility into publishing activities and researchers’ funding across their institutions.

The Wiley Open Access Account includes a dashboard for administration, providing an easy to use and transparent view of publishing activity with reporting functionality. The consortia dashboard view enables management of payment requests from authors for their open access APCs. The tool also streamlines backend processes which results in improved speed of research dissemination.

The pilot agreement begins in 2020, and all participating VIVA member institutions and affiliated researchers are included and may apply for funding of gold open access articles.

UK Emerald Publishing partners with Web of Science Group to open up peer review - 08 Aug 2019

The Web of Science Group (a Clarivate Analytics company) has entered into a new partnership with Emerald Publishing, to pilot the industry’s first cross-publisher, scalable and transparent peer review workflow from Publons and ScholarOne across three of Emerald’s leading journals.

Transparent peer review shows the complete peer review process from initial review to final decision, and has gained popularity with authors, reviewers and editors alike in recent years.

The new transparent peer review service will be rolled out across Online Information Review, Industrial Lubrication and Tribology and International Journal of Social Economics. The workflows ensure that alongside the published article, readers can access a comprehensive peer review history, including reviewer reports, editor decision letters and authors’ responses. Each of these elements is assigned its own digital object identified (DOI), which helps readers easily reference and cite the peer review content.

Transparency can also aid teaching of best practice in peer review. The transparent peer review workflow complies with best-practice data privacy regulation, ensuring the individual preferences of authors, peer reviewers and journals are met.

Switzerland Frontiers and the University of Mainz form open access publishing agreement - 08 Aug 2019

The University Library of Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (Universitätsbibliothek Mainz) has established an institutional central invoicing membership agreement for open access publishing with Frontiers.

The University Library Mainz supports its researchers in making their research more widely available. As part of this support, Universitätsbibliothek Mainz has entered into an institutional agreement with Frontiers. Under the terms of this agreement, eligible authors affiliated with the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz (JGU Mainz) or with the University Medical Center may publish in any Frontiers journal at no cost to them, and with a simplified process.

Eligible authors will benefit from a streamlined invoicing process, managed directly between Frontiers and the Open Access team at the Universitätsbibliothek Mainz, relieving authors of the responsibility of payment. Furthermore, Universitätsbibliothek Mainz will benefit from a discount on Article Processing Charges (APCs) for articles covered by this agreement.

This agreement will further encourage JGU Mainz authors to publish open access, increasing uptake of open access to the results of mostly publicly funded research, to the benefit of the scholarly community and the public at large, while reducing costs.

Authors may submit their article under this institutional agreement by selecting ‘Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz / Universitätsmedizin Mainz’ as institutional payer in the invoice section when submitting their article. Frontiers will then verify their eligibility with Universitätsbibliothek Mainz, and if confirmed, the APC will be paid by the Library upon acceptance.
