McGraw-Hill Professional unveils new online resource - AccessEmergency Medicine - 26 Jan 2007

Publisher McGraw-Hill Professional, part of McGraw-Hill Companies, US, has announced the launch of AccessEmergency Medicine (http://www.accessEM.com). A complete online service, AccessEmergency Medicine allows users to quickly search for the clinical features, diagnosis and treatment for the entire scope of problems present in the Emergency Department.

The latest addition to McGraw-Hill Professional's offering of online medical resources, AccessEmergency Medicine is part of a series of specialty-focused sites that build directly upon the success of AccessMedicine, an online service that provides access to numerous McGraw-Hill medical references for general practitioners and medical students. The web-based resource is seen to be an invaluable resource for emergency physicians, as well as an ideal tool for resident and student education, and for emergency nursing and paramedic information.

The service includes instructional videos for key clinical procedures, decision rules, and crisis interventions performed in the Emergency Department. Developed in conjunction with the American College of Emergency Physicians, AccessEmergency Medicine offers complete coverage of common and rare procedures in the emergency department with all the information physicians need to retrieve and review quickly. The information service provides multimedia resources, illustrations, imaging studies, algorithms and clinical presentations fully integrated with the text to help in quick diagnosis and treatment decisions. Complete drug information throughout the site offers immediate access to chemical structure and dosing information, adverse reactions, indications and contraindications, as well as patient education in English and Spanish and full-color photos of all formulations.

Depression and Anxiety to become the ADAA's official publication - 26 Jan 2007

Publisher John Wiley & Sons, Inc., US, has announced an agreement with the Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA). Under the deal, Wiley's journal, Depression and Anxiety, will become an official publication of ADAA. Complimentary subscriptions to the journal will be made available to the professional membership of ADAA.

Led by Editor-in-Chief Dr. Thomas Uhde, Depression and Anxiety publishes original research and synthetic review articles covering a range of aspects of anxiety, stress, and mood disorders and related phenomena in humans and animals. The journal is widely read among psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, psychopharmacologists, and healthcare professionals in the behavioral sciences.

ADAA is a leading national, non-profit organisation dedicated to informing the public, healthcare professionals and legislators that anxiety disorders are real, serious and treatable. American Mathematical Society journals to be preserved in Portico - 26 Jan 2007

Non-profit electronic archiving service provider Portico, US, has announced that all the electronic content from one of its publisher participants - the American Mathematical Society (AMS) - has now been preserved in the Portico archive. AMS has chosen Portico as the archive for the current e-content of 11 journals (including the entirety of its three e-only titles). With this inclusion, more than 375,000 articles have been preserved within Portico.

The archive has fully preserved all the bibliographic data, PDF page content and supplemental files of over 10,000 articles published between 1995 and the present. It will now preserve new content from each of these 11 journals as it is published. In addition, AMS has designated Portico as an official delivery platform for post-cancellation access claims. Also, it will make an annual financial contribution to support Portico's ongoing operations.

AMS is focused on pure and applied mathematical research and scholarship. It publishes the Journal of the American Mathematical Society, Proceedings of the American Mathematical Society, Transactions of the American Mathematical Society and Mathematics of Computation among other titles. Since 1996, AMS has been archiving its four flagship print publications with JSTOR. By archiving its e-current content with Portico, it seeks to assure the future availability of the complete publication run of these four titles for future scholars, practitioners, researchers and students.

ProQuest to continue as library distributor of The Lancet - 26 Jan 2007

ProQuest Information and Learning, a division of ProQuest Company, US, recently announced an agreement with STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands. Under the deal, ProQuest will continue to distribute the acclaimed medical journal The Lancet to libraries worldwide. The renewed contract allows libraries to access the journal integrated within ProQuest's several STM databases.

Published by Elsevier, The Lancet is one of the most influential medical journals in the world. The journal is known for its independent, authoritative voice in global medicine. Its commitment to international health is delivered through research and analysis from all regions of the world and its thought-provoking opinion is communicated by three editorials every week.

The agreement is part of ProQuest's ongoing strategy to support its STM customers with highly respected and authoritative titles. The content from The Lancet is available through such ProQuest databases as ProQuest Medical Library and ProQuest Health and Medical Complete. Backfiles will extend to January of 1990 and new articles will be available 60 days after their original publication date.

JSTAT seeks entries for the 2007 JSTAT prize for young scientist - 26 Jan 2007

The Journal of Statistical Mechanics: Theory and Experiment (JSTAT) is currently seeking entries for the annual prize for the best paper written by young scientists. A prize of 500 Euro will be awarded to the author(s) of the best paper as judged by a panel from the editorial board. All entries should be submitted on or before December 31, 2007.

To be eligible for the award, scientists must have had a paper accepted for publication in JSTAT. Also, they should have completed PhD within the past five years at the time of submission. In case a group would like their paper to be considered, all members of the group must fulfill the criterion.

A multi-disciplinary, peer-reviewed journal, JSTAT brings together cutting-edge research in all aspects of statistical physics. Being an online journal, it offers authors the opportunity to publish large data sets, tables and figures, as well as multimedia attachments. IMS names Gilles Pajot COO, Leslye Katz appointed Senior VP, CFO - 26 Jan 2007

Pharmaceutical and healthcare information provider IMS Health, US, has announced that Gilles V.J. Pajot, executive vice president and president, Global Business Management, has been named the company's chief operating officer. Also, Leslye G. Katz, IMS vice president and controller, has been named senior vice president and chief financial officer. Both executives will report to David R. Carlucci, IMS chairman and CEO.

In his new position, Pajot will assume responsibility for driving IMS's business operations, in addition to his current duties. He has over 30 years experience in the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries, and has served in a number of senior-level regional and global roles. He joined IMS in 1997 and has held executive positions with responsibility for IMS operations in Europe, Middle East and Africa.

As senior vice president and chief financial officer, Katz, will lead IMS's worldwide finance organisation and have responsibility for finance and accounting, treasury, internal audit and investor relations.
