New partnership between Pensoft and BEXIS 2 supports data paper publications
- 30 Nov 2017

German open source platform BEXIS 2 and academic publisher Pensoft have announced a new partnership, as a result of which, scientists are now able to publish data papers in three of the most innovative Pensoft journals - Biodiversity Data Journal (BDJ), One Ecosystem and Metabarcoding and Metagenomics (MBMG) - using EML data packs from BEXIS 2.

In order to encourage and facilitate high-quality data publication, the collaboration allows for researchers to easily store, analyse and manage their data via BEXIS 2, before sharing it with the scientific community in a creditable format.

The newly implemented workflow requires researchers to first download their data from the free open source BEXIS 2 software and, then, upload the data pack on Pensoft's ARPHA Journal Publishing Platform where the data can be further elaborated to comply to the established Data Paper standards. Within the software, they can work freely on these data.

Having selected a journal and a data paper article template, a single click at an 'Import a manuscript' button transfers the data into a manuscript in ARPHA Authoring Tool. Within the collaborative writing tool, the data owner can invite co-authors and peers to help him/her finalise the paper.

Once submitted to a journal, the article undergoes a peer review and data auditing and, if accepted for publication, is published to take advantage of all perks available at any Pensoft journal, including easy discoverability and increased citability.

The collaboration between Pensoft and BEXIS 2 is set to strengthen in the next few months, when a new import workflow is expected to provide an alternative way to publish datasets.

Chalmers University of Technology to leverage FOLIO library services platform
- 30 Nov 2017

EBSCO Information Services (EBSCO) is teaming up with Chalmers University of Technology to serve as the first FOLIO beta partner. As a touchstone for the global academic library community, Chalmers Library will prove out FOLIO's ability to satisfy traditional resource management requirements while allowing for extensibility into new services based on a vibrant new technology ecosystem for libraries.

FOLIO, a community collaboration to develop an open source LSP, is being built in collaboration with more than a dozen organisations worldwide. The beta program is an instrumental step in developing and establishing FOLIO as the primary platform shared globally for library management and enablement.

Chalmers University Head of the Department of Communication and Learning in Science and Library Director, Daniel Forsman says the beta partnership allows Chalmers to explore, learn and share its work within the FOLIO community.

The partnership will also help EBSCO develop hosting and services that will enable libraries of all sizes to leverage the full benefits of FOLIO, ultimately demonstrating its viability as a practical and compelling library services platform.

FOLIO, which stands for the Future of Libraries is Open, is a community coming together to develop a reimagined library services platform, one that supports traditional resource management requirements and functionality, yet is engineered for innovation and growth through industry collaboration. FOLIO allows for extensibility into new services for libraries and will dramatically change the technology ecosystem available to libraries, service providers and technology developers.

Edinburgh University Press to use River Valley's submission and peer review system, ReView
- 22 Nov 2017

Edinburgh University Press has become the latest publisher to sign up to ReView, River Valley's submission and peer review system, in a bid to reduce admin and turnaround times on their journals.

ReView is projected as a revolutionary peer review system. Built from the ground up using the latest web technologies, it is delivered as a single, nimble installation, whether you have 2 or 2000 journals. Books and conference series can also be handled within the same installation, giving publishers more control over the content.

The reporting engine in ReView is powerful yet simple to use. Although ReView ships with a set of standard reports, any number of new reports can be generated within minutes, giving publishers unparalleled control over their publications, usually with no need for extra training. It can be tuned to generate the precise requirements of a publisher for one, several, or all journals, and to email them automatically at regular intervals.
