Emerald sets up new North American office to better serve authors, editors and customers

Academic and professional literature publisher Emerald Group Publishing Ltd., UK, has announced the establishment of Emerald Inc., a subsidiary company incorporated in the US and based in new headquarters in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

With a growing number of authors and editors coming from the US, the new office seeks to provide better editorial and sales support for its customer base in the US marketplace.

Emerald's publishing philosophy of "Research you can use" ensures that its peer-reviewed journals and books include high quality research that has practical application in the corporate, policy, academic and business arenas. Emerald publishes over 700 titles, comprising 200 journals, nearly 300 books and more than 200 book series as well as an extensive range of online products and services. Oncology NEWS International redesigns editorial content

Oncology NEWS International, a provider of news and coverage of the haematology and oncology market, has announced a redesign of its editorial content. The move is aimed at addressing the ever-changing needs of the cancer care market.

Effective immediately, readers of Oncology NEWS International will notice a more functional and more appealing format that showcases broader coverage and better represents the readers in the oncology and haematology community. The new design caps a series of changes intended to keep readers engaged and better informed about important developments in the cancer care community. The journal has expanded its approach to include a more issue-oriented look at the clinical and economic forces that are driving the advancement of haematology and oncology.

UBM reorganises CMPi division, Gary Hughes steps down as CEO

Niche information services provider United Business Media Limited has announced the reorganisation its CMP Information division (CMPi) into four market-focused businesses. As a result of this reorganisation the position of CEO of CMPi will become redundant and Gary Hughes, CMPi's Chief Executive, will leave the business.

This strategic reorganisation follows the model established by UBM's successful reorganisation of CMP Technology, its US-based technology media company, into four businesses in early 2008 with each business focusing on a different set of technology industry professional communities. The four new businesses - International Media, Live Media, Built Environment and Conferences - will share support functions and infrastructure, including finance and IT services and sales management. These central functions will be managed by Shane Naughton, currently CMPi's Chief Financial Officer.

The International Media business will be led by Simon Foster. It operates market-leading global tradeshows including CPhI, Informex (speciality chemicals), Food Ingredients, HBA (health&beauty industry), Sea Trade (cruise industry) and complementary media products. Its events take place across the world, including in China, North America, Brazil, Africa and Europe. Pro forma revenues for 2007 were approximately £40m.

The Live Media business will be led by Jane Risby-Rose. The business includes market-leading events and magazines such as The Furniture Show, Interiors, IFSEC (fire, safety and security products), Internet World, the Customer Management business as well as the travel and other portfolios.

The Built Environment business will be led by Jonathan Newby. The Built Environment portfolio includes magazines and events for the UK construction and architecture communities, including Building, Building Design and Property Week magazines, and Barbour ABI, the leading provider of construction industry intelligence data and workflow products.

The Conferences business will be led by Ruth Carter. The Conferences business was established in 2007 and is now producing its first events around the world, operating across the businesses noted above, working closely with the CEOs, their Publishers and Event Directors to provide a conference component to complement the existing product portfolios.
