Wolters Kluwer Health releases latest version of its clinical surveillance solution, Sentri7®
- 21 Sep 2018

Wolters Kluwer Health has released the latest version of its industry-leading clinical surveillance solution, Sentri7®. The solution gives hospitals tools and resources to stay in front of new and emerging clinical challenges and battle the antibiotic-resistant bacteria that are taking a toll on patient safety and hospital costs. In an April 2018 report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there were 221 instances of unusual resistance of so-called nightmare bacteria that are virtually invulnerable to most known treatments.

Sentri7 is part of a suite of applications that have been integrated into the SoleSource platform, which brings together solutions that address a wide range of clinical surveillance challenges and compliance activities across a hospital or health system. It makes it easier for clinicians to proactively identify patients who may be experiencing a life-threatening condition or quickly find and respond to an infection before it spreads.

Newly released surveillance capabilities include: the integration of clinical initiatives on the SoleSource platform for antimicrobial stewardship, medication management, infection prevention and opioid management. The platform also contains POC Advisor®, a dedicated surveillance module for sepsis and other emergent conditions; out-of-the-box, evidence-based content including alerts and recommended actions for real-time prioritisation of urgent conditions and follow-up for patients at-risk; integrated documentation provides a one-click solution to push clinical notes into the EHR, keeping the full care team on the same page while eliminating double documentation; and robust analytics create an environment for continuous improvement by enabling clinicians and administrators to understand how their interventions are driving measurable improvement in cost and outcomes performance.

Understanding the impact on outcomes has been a gap in clinical surveillance solutions. The SoleSource platform offers new analytics that give hospitals control of intuitive views of their outcomes, supporting reporting within the department, at the facility level and across a health system.

Everson and the pharmacy team provide guidance to the hospitals' quality staff on which key performance metrics should be tracked and reported year-over-year.

Wolters Kluwer moves 175 customers and migrates nearly 1M procedure notes from EndoWorks to ProVation MD
- 17 Feb 2017

The Health division of Wolters Kluwer, a global provider of information and point of care solutions for the healthcare industry, has announced that its roster of EndoWorks conversions to ProVation MD® for Gastroenterology (GI) continues to grow exponentially in advance of Olympus' departure from the endowriter market. Among the 175 healthcare organisations that moved from EndoWorks to Wolters Kluwer's gastroenterology structured reporting software in 2016 was Tampa General Hospital, whose 25 GI physicians are benefiting from streamlined documentation and accelerated workflows.

More than 260 healthcare organisations have transitioned to ProVation MD for GI, including successful migration of nearly 1 million historical procedure notes, since being named by Olympus as a preferred replacement for its endowriter software. That designation makes Wolters Kluwer one of just two vendors able to license an Olympus-developed export utility to seamlessly migrate data from EndoWorks to ProVation MD, which played an important role in Tampa General's decision.

A 1,011-bed private not-for-profit hospital, Tampa General is one among the largest hospitals in Florida and serves a population of more than 4 million. It is the primary teaching affiliate of the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine. Approximately 8,000 procedures are performed at its GI facility every year.

ProVation MD will be featured among Wolters Kluwer's point of care solutions in Booth #1543 at the HIMSS17 Annual Conference and Exhibition, taking place February 20-22 in Orlando, Fla. It is the only dedicated structured reporting and coding solution that provides clinically relevant, intuitive software for more accurate and complete documentation of procedures. It allows physicians to efficiently capture robust detail from even the most complex procedures, then automatically generates clear, complete procedure notes and appropriate reimbursement codes, quickly, easily and without dictation. By automatically applying the reimbursement codes and disseminating critical procedural information, ProVation MD ensures appropriate payment, reduces costs and streamlines quality reporting while improving clinical communication and care coordination.

ProVation MD offers more precise reporting, which for Tampa General translates into the capture of a greater number of billable codes. Further, because the software can be customised to suit physicians' specific needs, documentation and patient through-put are accelerated.

Wolters Kluwer completes first group of data migrations for new customers converting to ProVation MD from Olympus EndoWorks
- 17 Mar 2016

The Health division of Wolters Kluwer, a global provider of information and point of care solutions for the healthcare industry, has successfully completed data migrations at three ProVation® MD Gastroenterology customer facilities that converted from Olympus® EndoWorks® in advance of its 2018 retirement. Wolters Kluwer signed agreements last year to replace Olympus EndoWorks with ProVation MD at 86 healthcare facilities.

The data migrations were conducted using the EndoWorks Export Tool developed by Olympus and licensed to Wolters Kluwer, a preferred replacement vendor. Use of the export tool in conjunction with its own proprietary data import tool enabled Wolters Kluwer to successfully migrate an average of nearly 32,000 examination records representing up to 10 years of patient data at each facility. The three data migrations were completed in less than 24 hours combined, with one migration taking just a single hour.

The only dedicated structured reporting and coding solution that provides clinically relevant, intuitive software for more accurate and complete documentation of procedures, ProVation MD Gastroenterology allows physicians to efficiently capture robust detail from even the most complex procedures. It then automatically generates clear, complete procedure notes and appropriate reimbursement codes, quickly, easily and without dictation. By automatically applying the reimbursement codes and disseminating critical procedural information, ProVation MD ensures appropriate payment, reduces costs and streamlines quality reporting while improving clinical communication and care coordination.

To lessen the impact on its customers as it phases out EndoWorks over three years, Olympus identified ProVation MD and one other software solution as recommended replacements. This means Wolters Kluwer is one of just two vendors able to license an Olympus-developed export utility to seamlessly migrate data from EndoWorks to ProVation MD.

Accelrys unveils enhancements in Enterprise Lab Notebook
- 08 Dec 2011

Scientific informatics software and services company Accelrys, Inc., US, has announced new workflow orchestration and analysis capabilities that seek to improve project, study, experiment and sample management for scientists. As key enhancements within Accelrys' Enterprise Lab Management software portfolio, the new Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) capabilities reportedly continue the process of transforming the scientific laboratory from a collection of point solutions to an integrated, convergent electronic lab.

Now, for the first time without leaving their ELN, analytical, process and formulation scientists can route materials and requests for characterisation between different laboratories, disciplines and external partners, according to Accelrys. Scientists can keep track of where materials are and what characterisations need to be performed; ultimately, they can analyse all the information known about a material, sample or experiment to generate actionable insights and knowledge in a collaborative electronic lab environment.

The latest Work Request extension to Symyx Notebook by Accelrys removes the need for scientists to coordinate task and sample requests manually using multiple document and workflow management applications, which often leads to miscommunication and workflow delays. By enabling scientists to manage, track and share requests in real time from within their notebooks, the new Work Request capabilities are said to help project teams collaborate more efficiently in processing and sharing tasks, samples and results.

New ELN analysis capabilities resulting from integration of Pipeline Pilot analytics enable scientists to analyse structured and unstructured information across multiple experiments without leaving their notebooks. Scientists can now quickly compare and contrast knowledge from their own experiments and those of their colleagues, using flexible notebook dashboards to make better decisions based on the most complete and up-to-date information.

WK Health launches ProVation MD module to streamline American College of Cardiology NCDR CathPCI Registry reporting
- 15 Sep 2011

Healthcare information provider Wolters Kluwer Health, US, has announced the release of a module to support participation in the American College of Cardiology (ACC) National Cardiovascular Data Registry (NCDR) CathPCI Registry. Part of ProVation MD for cardiology procedure documentation and coding, the ACC-certified module automates collection of required data and simplifies the submission process.

One of six registries maintained by the NCDR, the CathPCI Registry is a national surveillance system that assesses the characteristics, treatments, and outcomes of cardiac disease patients who receive diagnostic catheterisation and/or percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) procedures. The goal is to optimise the outcomes and management of coronary heart disease patients through implementation of evidence-based guidelines, as well as to facilitate efforts to improve the quality and safety of care and investigate novel quality improvement methods. Participating hospitals and cath labs are provided with a risk-adjusted assessment to measure their performance against similar comparison groups and national benchmarks.

ProVation MD replaces dictation and transcription and allows physicians to efficiently document procedures at the point of care. By driving structured and compliant data capture and pairing it with robust reporting and analysis capabilities, it simplifies reporting, clinical research and audit preparation and simplifies participation in quality initiatives, benchmarking and other reporting statutes.

The ProVation Registry Reporter is an easy-to-use module that takes advantage of procedure data documented with ProVation MD, as well as information gathered through interfaces to other systems. The software highlights data required by the NCDR, including patient demographic and admission data, hemodynamic system data, and clinical documentation data including diagnostic and PCI information, and feeds it automatically into the Registry Reporter for quarterly submission to the CathPCI Registry.

By making NCDR CathPCI data requirements an integral part of the physician's documentation workflow and by leveraging interfaces to ProVation MD, the Registry Reporter increases the efficiency with which reporting is accomplished. It eliminates redundant data entry, which improves data quality and accuracy. Finally, the module allows for easy review, augmentation and modification of collected information.

Sentri7 receives 2011/2012 EHR modular certification
- 04 Jul 2011

Healthcare information provider Wolters Kluwer Health (WK Health), US, has announced that its Sentri7 clinical surveillance, documentation and reporting application has received 2011/2012 Electronic Health Record (EHR) modular certification. With this certification, the software is now deemed to be capable of enabling providers to meet the Stage 1 meaningful use measures required to qualify for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Sentri7 was certified on June 25, 2011, under ICSA Labs' EHR Testing and Certification Programme, an ONC-ATCB (Office of the National Coordination Accredited Testing and Certification Body), in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. ICSA Labs is authorised to perform both complete EHR and EHR module testing and certification that demonstrates an organization is appropriately protecting sensitive, private patient information, as well as meeting meaningful use requirements.

As part of the ARRA, also known as the stimulus bill, hospitals can receive financial incentives based on their use of EHRs, but only if they can demonstrate "meaningful use" of the technology. Eligible hospitals who seek to qualify for incentive payments under the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs are required by statute to use Certified EHR Technology and must demonstrate use of a qualified EHR in a meaningful manner.

Sentri7 (sentri7.com) gives hospital staff a single point of access to lab results, medication records and patient demographics, data that previously resided in different systems. Customised rules run against the data to identify and flag at-risk patients.

ProVation MD query tool for streamlined GIQuIC submission released
- 08 Jun 2011

Healthcare information provider Wolters Kluwer Health (WK Health), US, has announced the release of a query tool that streamlines the collection of quality data for the GI Quality Improvement Consortium Ltd. (GIQuIC) benchmarking initiative. Part of ProVation MD for gastroenterology (GI) procedure documentation and coding, the query tool also allows for easy collection of data in an approved format that can then be submitted to GIQuIC.

GIQuIC was established by the American College of Gastroenterology (ACG) and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy (ASGE) to support quality improvement efforts by creating a national GI endoscopy data repository of Endoscopy Quality Measures. This data will be used to provide benchmarking reports, identify and address care gaps and collect data for use in outcomes studies and other quality initiatives.

Physicians, hospitals and ASCs that participate in GIQuIC's benchmarking initiative, which launched in July 2010, will initially collect and electronically report on 84 quality indicators for colonoscopy. Future modules will focus on EGD, ERCP and EUS procedures.

The ProVation MD query tool is then used to organise collected data in a specific format that can be submitted to the GIQuIC registry. For a mid-size facility, automating data collection with the query tool can mean a time savings of up to 40 - 60 hours annually.

ProVation MD replaces dictation and transcription and allows physicians to efficiently document procedures at the point of care. By driving structured and compliant data capture and pairing it with reporting and analysis capabilities, it simplifies reporting, clinical research and audit preparation; and participation in quality initiatives, benchmarking and other reporting statutes.

SDL integrates LiveContent with Trisoft to offer integrated dynamic publishing tool
- 20 Apr 2010

Global information management solutions provider SDL, UK, has announced the first release of the company’s end-to-end publishing technology for technical documentation. The solution, developed by SDL’s Structured Content Technologies division, seeks to address the changing demands of Internet and Smartphone users who expect on-demand, personalised and highly-interactive technical documentation.

According to SDL, global companies are realising that the traditional methods of delivering static PDF and print documentation will be a thing of the past. In the next five years, technical documentation is projected to be transformed from static, printed collateral and PDF to interactive electronic documentation delivered via the web or a Smartphone.

SDL seeks to deliver the first installment on this vision through the integration of SDL LiveContent and SDL Trisoft, the company’s Component Content Management system. The new integration is expected to empower companies to transform static documentation managed as publications into rich interactive, web-based information. SDL LiveContent is projected as a dynamic delivery engine that produces an interactive document with rich animated graphics, sophisticated search for easy navigation and analytics that allow companies to understand how customers are using their content. Customers are seen to benefit from technical content that is easy to find and tailored to the products they purchased and their interests.

With this announcement, companies that have adopted structured content and DITA, a recognised XML writing standard for technical information, can now expect to benefit from a solution that delivers interactive web documents to customers’ browsers and devices.
