SCL Health System opts for Health Language software to streamline ICD-10 conversion
- 08 May 2013

Information services provider Wolters Kluwer Health, US, has announced that SCL Health System (SCLHS) has selected its Health Language software as part of SCLHS's strategic roadmap to ICD-10 implementation. The Leap I-10 solution will be leveraged to help the 2250-bed health system mitigate financial risk, improve clinical documentation and streamline conversion to meet the October 1, 2014 deadline of the new clinical coding system.

Leap I-10 seeks to provide a foundation of analytics to help hospitals evaluate the potential impact of the ICD-10 conversion process across departments, applications, processes and workflows. The solution mines historical claims data to identify DRGs and ICD-9 codes that may pose a risk, as well as helps hospitals pinpoint clinical documentation improvement needs for compliance. Advanced tools enable healthcare organisations to create customised code mappings from ICD-9 to ICD-10 to minimise the potential for revenue loss.

The healthcare industry's critical transition to the modern ICD-10 coding system is said to be a massive undertaking that is expected to impact nearly every aspect of hospital operations. SLC Health System has reportedly chosen Health Language to provide the tools it needs to navigate this complex process.

Health Language provides healthcare terminology management solutions and professional services that normalise all data within a healthcare organisation into standardized code sets such as ICD-10, SNOMED CT and LOINC. SCLHS is a faith-based, nonprofit healthcare organisation operating nine hospitals, four safety net clinics, one children's mental health treatment centre and more than 100 ambulatory service centres in four US states.

Scientific informatics software and services company Accelrys, Inc., US, has announced new workflow orchestration and analysis capabilities that seek to improve project, study, experiment and sample management for scientists. As key enhancements within Accelrys' Enterprise Lab Management software portfolio, the new Electronic Laboratory Notebook (ELN) capabilities reportedly continue the process of transforming the scientific laboratory from a collection of point solutions to an integrated, convergent electronic lab.

Now, for the first time without leaving their ELN, analytical, process and formulation scientists can route materials and requests for characterisation between different laboratories, disciplines and external partners, according to Accelrys. Scientists can keep track of where materials are and what characterisations need to be performed; ultimately, they can analyse all the information known about a material, sample or experiment to generate actionable insights and knowledge in a collaborative electronic lab environment.

The latest Work Request extension to Symyx Notebook by Accelrys removes the need for scientists to coordinate task and sample requests manually using multiple document and workflow management applications, which often leads to miscommunication and workflow delays. By enabling scientists to manage, track and share requests in real time from within their notebooks, the new Work Request capabilities are said to help project teams collaborate more efficiently in processing and sharing tasks, samples and results.

New ELN analysis capabilities resulting from integration of Pipeline Pilot analytics enable scientists to analyse structured and unstructured information across multiple experiments without leaving their notebooks. Scientists can now quickly compare and contrast knowledge from their own experiments and those of their colleagues, using flexible notebook dashboards to make better decisions based on the most complete and up-to-date information.

Sentri7 receives 2011/2012 EHR modular certification
- 04 Jul 2011

Healthcare information provider Wolters Kluwer Health (WK Health), US, has announced that its Sentri7 clinical surveillance, documentation and reporting application has received 2011/2012 Electronic Health Record (EHR) modular certification. With this certification, the software is now deemed to be capable of enabling providers to meet the Stage 1 meaningful use measures required to qualify for funding under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA).

Sentri7 was certified on June 25, 2011, under ICSA Labs' EHR Testing and Certification Programme, an ONC-ATCB (Office of the National Coordination Accredited Testing and Certification Body), in accordance with the criteria adopted by the Secretary of Health and Human Services. ICSA Labs is authorised to perform both complete EHR and EHR module testing and certification that demonstrates an organization is appropriately protecting sensitive, private patient information, as well as meeting meaningful use requirements.

As part of the ARRA, also known as the stimulus bill, hospitals can receive financial incentives based on their use of EHRs, but only if they can demonstrate "meaningful use" of the technology. Eligible hospitals who seek to qualify for incentive payments under the Medicare and Medicaid EHR Incentive Programs are required by statute to use Certified EHR Technology and must demonstrate use of a qualified EHR in a meaningful manner.

Sentri7 (sentri7.com) gives hospital staff a single point of access to lab results, medication records and patient demographics, data that previously resided in different systems. Customised rules run against the data to identify and flag at-risk patients.

ProVation MD streamlines GIQuIC data collection and submission by first guiding physicians through the process of capturing required, conditionally required and optional data elements. The ProVation MD query tool is then used to organise collected data in a specific format that can be submitted to the GIQuIC registry. For a mid-size facility, automating data collection with the query tool can mean a time savings of up to 40 - 60 hours annually.

ProVation MD replaces dictation and transcription and allows physicians to efficiently document procedures at the point of care. By driving structured and compliant data capture and pairing it with reporting and analysis capabilities, it simplifies reporting, clinical research and audit preparation; and participation in quality initiatives, benchmarking and other reporting statutes.

Available for a full range of medical specialties, ProVation software streamlines the coding and billing process and enhances compliance by producing complete, coding-ready and image-enhanced procedure notes.

SDL integrates LiveContent with Trisoft to offer integrated dynamic publishing tool
- 20 Apr 2010

Global information management solutions provider SDL, UK, has announced the first release of the company’s end-to-end publishing technology for technical documentation. The solution, developed by SDL’s Structured Content Technologies division, seeks to address the changing demands of Internet and Smartphone users who expect on-demand, personalised and highly-interactive technical documentation.

According to SDL, global companies are realising that the traditional methods of delivering static PDF and print documentation will be a thing of the past. In the next five years, technical documentation is projected to be transformed from static, printed collateral and PDF to interactive electronic documentation delivered via the web or a Smartphone.

SDL seeks to deliver the first installment on this vision through the integration of SDL LiveContent and SDL Trisoft, the company’s Component Content Management system. The new integration is expected to empower companies to transform static documentation managed as publications into rich interactive, web-based information. SDL LiveContent is projected as a dynamic delivery engine that produces an interactive document with rich animated graphics, sophisticated search for easy navigation and analytics that allow companies to understand how customers are using their content. Customers are seen to benefit from technical content that is easy to find and tailored to the products they purchased and their interests.

With this announcement, companies that have adopted structured content and DITA, a recognised XML writing standard for technical information, can now expect to benefit from a solution that delivers interactive web documents to customers’ browsers and devices.
