Elsevier announces publication of seven new oil and gas industry titles

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of Compositional Grading in Oil and Gas Reservoirs by Rogerio Oliveira Esposito, Pedro Henrique Rodrigues Alijó, Jose Antonio Scilipoti and Frederico Wanderley Tavares. One of seven new oil and gas industry titles, this valuable reference offers instruction, examples and case studies to respond to the challenges of modelling a compositional gradient subject. It combines practical studies with the importance of modelling more complex phenomena, enabling current and upcoming reservoir engineers to produce stronger production curves, reserve estimations, and future development strategies. Multiple examples and case studies are included to help them make sense of their reservoir's output results.

Elsevier announces six new oil, gas and pipeline engineering books at offshore technology conference

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of Fundamentals of Applied Reservoir Engineering, an invaluable reference for industry professionals wishing to understand how reservoirs fundamentally work and how a reservoir engineer begins the performance process. Elsevier also announced the second edition of Introduction to Enhanced Recovery Methods for Heavy Oil and Tar Sands, an expanded and updated must-have guide for newcomers to the industry presenting all currently available recovery methods, and the pros and cons of each.

These two highly anticipated books, along with four additional new oil, gas and pipeline engineering titles, will be featured in Elsevier's booth #9153 at the Offshore Technology Conference, May 2-5, at NRG Park in Houston, TX.

Written by reservoir engineering, modeling and planning expert Dr. Richard Wheaton, Fundamentals of Applied Reservoir Engineering addresses reservoir appraisal, economics, development planning and optimisation. It provides appendices on enhanced oil recovery, gas well testing, basic fluid thermodynamics and mathematical operators to enhance comprehension. The book offers online spreadsheets covering well test analysis, material balance, field aggregation and economic indicators to help engineers apply reservoir concepts to practical field data applications. Elsevier and China Electric Power Press co-publish inaugural book in new Energy Series

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of Ultra High Voltage AC/DC Grids by Zhenya Liu, President and CEO of the State Grid Corporation of China (SGCC). This is the first book released under the co-publishing agreement between Elsevier and China Electric Power Press (CEPP), the publishing subsidiary of SGCC. The companies are currently signing additional books for the new Elsevier and CEPP Energy Series.

Ultra High Voltage AC/DC Grids is an essential reference for understanding the current applications and innovation in ultra-high voltage (UHV) transmission, which has many advantages for new power networks due to its capacity, long-distance potential, high efficiency and low loss. The book summarizes the research, innovation and engineering practice in UHV power grid construction in China since 2005, providing insight and case studies into a technology that is developing worldwide.

As one of the world's largest electricity utility business, SGCC is number seven on the Fortune Global 500 2014 list and supplies power to 88 percent of China in an area populated by over one billion people. Elsevier publishes new books on Energy Theory and Practice

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the publication of four new energy books reflecting the latest in theory and practice. One of the four books is the second edition of Dictionary of Energy, edited by award-winning researcher, professor and consultant Dr. Cutler J. Cleveland in collaboration with lexicographer Christopher Morris.

Dictionary of Energy is a comprehensive and authoritative reference book on all aspects of energy and its role in society. It comes at a time when the topic of energy prices, resources and environmental impacts are at the forefront of business and political discussions. The new edition contains more than 10,000 terms, across 40 key subject areas in energy such as solar, oil and gas, economics, policy, sustainable development, renewable/alternative energy, and water. The book is a useful reference for all those in the working field of, or who have an interest in energy, including scientists, consultants, journalists, economists, educators, students and policy-makers.

Dr. Cleveland is the Director of the Center for Energy and Environmental Studies at Boston University, where he also holds the position of Professor in the Department of Geography and Environment. He has edited several other reference books, including the previously released two-volume resource Handbook of Energy, which provides interdisciplinary coverage appropriate for those in environmental sciences, social and natural sciences, and engineering.

Elsevier to publish Energy Institute journal - Journal of the Energy Institute

STM publisher Elsevier has entered into a publishing agreement with the Energy Institute (EI) to publish its official journal, Journal of the Energy Institute.

Journal of the Energy Institute, a peer-reviewed quarterly publication first published in 1926, is essential reading for academics, researchers and practitioners across the globe engaged in energy and fuel technology. The journal's coverage is broad but also increasingly captures changes in energy technology that result from the transition to more efficient and environmentally aware energy production and end use. Accordingly, recent articles in the Journal of the Energy Institute deal with combustion engineering, biofuels, carbon capture and storage, and clean coal technology.

Journal of the Energy Institute is currently available online on ScienceDirect.

Springer to publish new OA journal in collaboration with the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute in China

STM publisher Springer has announced that it is publishing a new open access journal in collaboration with the State Grid Electric Power Research Institute (SGEPRI) in China. The Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy will be fully sponsored by the Chinese research institute and will function as its official journal. The peer-reviewed publication joins Springer's Chinese Library of Science, a collection of more than 90 high-quality Chinese research journals.

The Journal of Modern Power Systems and Clean Energy presents top-level academic achievements by international researchers and engineers. The journal seeks to serve as a bridge between Chinese and global researchers in the power industry. The journal appears quarterly, focusing on modern power systems such as Smart Grid technologies, clean energy integration, clean energy control and protection, and the electricity market.

Professor Yusheng Xue, Honorary President of the SGEPRI, will serve as the editor-in-chief of the new journal.

Elsevier launches new journal - Journal of Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources

STM publisher Elsevier has announced the launch of a new journal - Journal of Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources (JUOGR).

JUOGR will publish world-class science focusing on recent advances in knowledge and practices in the area of evaluation, development and management of unconventional resources for researchers and practicing engineers. The journal aims to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and field development of unconventional resources, such as tight gas, shale gas, liquid rich shales, tight oil, coalbed methane, gas hydrate, etc.

Journal of Unconventional Oil and Gas Resources will publish four volumes in 2013. It will be edited by Dr. John Yilin Wang from Pennsylvania State University, supported by a distinguished board of subject editors including leading experts in the field of petroleum geology, geophysics, and engineering.

Maney Publishing and IOM3 launch online only virtual journal on energy materials

Academic publisher Maney Publishing, UK, and the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IOM3) have announced the launch of Energy Materials – an online only ‘virtual journal’ covering current research on materials for energy generation and storage drawn from the Institute’s peer reviewed journals. Appearing quarterly, Energy Materials will draw together a selection of the latest research papers, and specially commissioned issues on a particular theme from Materials Research Innovations.

Energy Materials will be edited by Professor Stuart Irvine, Director of the Glyndŵr University Centre for Solar Energy Research, OpTIC Glyndŵr, and Professor Peter Flewitt, University of Bristol and Board Member, the Bristol–Oxford Nuclear Research Centre. As Chair and Vice-Chair of the Institute’s Energy Materials Group (EMG) they will select the content of each issue and direct the commissioning of material through the EMG, in collaboration with the editors of other Institute journals.

Energy Materials will launch in March with an issue focusing on photocatalyst materials, principally titanium dioxide, for hydrogen generation and other specialist applications such as sterilisation of water supplies. The virtual journal will also include an extensive range of recent research, including the papers appearing in the first energy materials issue of Materials Research Innovations.

The innovative concept of a virtual journal will highlight the output of the Institute’s extensive energy materials activities, reflecting the broad range of materials contributions within this increasingly important sector. In this respect Energy Materials will serve as a focus for the growing community with an interest in energy materials research and applications.

Elsevier launches new journal - Energy Strategy Reviews

STM publisher Elsevier, Netherlands, has announced the launch of a new quarterly, peer-reviewed journal - Energy Strategy Reviews - focusing on energy strategy, planning and decision making.

Energy Strategy Reviews stimulates the exchange of knowledge and best practice needed to optimise future energy choices. The journal highlights strategy implications of major energy system models and encourages discussion on what differentiates successful from the less successful energy mix strategies. It publishes analyses, case studies and report reviews, linking technical, scientific, and societal aspects of energy strategy.

The journal aims to spark the interest of all those concerned with developing sustainable energy solutions, including experts working in government, research organisations, academia, international agencies, NGOs, companies, and consultancies.

First papers of the journal are freely available online. The print issue will be available in March, 2012.

Wiley-VCH launches new journal - Advanced Energy Materials

Wiley-VCH, the German subsidiary of John Wiley & Sons, US, has announced the launch of the journal Advanced Energy Materials, a new international scientific journal dedicated to publishing high impact research in energy-related materials. The journal is the latest addition to the Advanced series. It will be handled by the Advanced Materials and Advanced Functional Materials editorial team at Wiley-VCH.

Advanced Energy Materials is an international, interdisciplinary, English-language publication of original peer-reviewed contributions in the form of invited reviews and progress reports, full papers and rapid communications, covering all topics in research relating to energy harvesting, conversion and storage. It serves as a dedicated forum for all energy-related research, including photovoltaics, batteries, supercapacitors, thermoelectrics, fuel cells and superconductors.

The journal will publish an initial six issues per year in print in 2011, and electronically via Wiley Online Library, Wiley's online content platform. The first print issue will be available January 18, 2011. Individual articles will be published online as EarlyView articles prior to full issue publication, accessible through http://www.advenergymat.de. Complimentary online access is available to all institutions through 2012.

Hart Energy Publishing acquires Rextag Strategies

Energy publisher Hart Energy Publishing, US, has acquired Rextag Strategies, a mapping and GIS (geographic information system) database services company, in an all-cash deal. Both firms are privately held and terms of the transaction were not disclosed.

The Rextag acquisition adds to Hart Energy's growing content portfolio with the addition of digital GIS databases and mapping services, custom digital cartography, pipeline flow and capacity data, energy infrastructure wall maps and reference books, all covering oil, gas, and other liquid pipeline operations throughout the US.

Rextag Strategies, based in San Diego, specialises in building GIS databases and producing highly accurate maps for oil and gas pipeline operations throughout the US. Rextag publishes the Interstate Natural Gas Infrastructure Map Book and its mapping and data visualisation capabilities can be applied worldwide.
