McKesson Corporation completes acquisition of Rexall Health
- 29 Dec 2016

Healthcare services and information technology company McKesson Corporation has completed the previously announced acquisition of Rexall Health for $2.9 billion CAD ($2.1 billion USD, or approximately $1.7 billion USD, net of certain estimated purchase price adjustments, proceeds from store divestitures, and tax benefits). This follows the agreement reached with the Competition Bureau of Canada for the acquisition of Rexall Health and approval received under the Investment Canada Act.

As part of the transaction, McKesson has acquired approximately 470 retail pharmacies, and has agreed to divest stores in 26 local markets that the Competition Bureau of Canada identified during its review of the transaction.

McKesson also announced that Domenic Pilla has been appointed CEO of McKesson Canada, effective January 3, 2017. Pilla will report to Paul C. Julian, executive vice president and group president, McKesson Corporation, and assume overall leadership responsibility for McKesson's distribution and retail businesses in Canada, including Rexall Health. Jürgen Schreiber, currently CEO of Rexall Health, will leave to pursue other opportunities.

With Rexall Health, McKesson will be able to serve a broad range of pharmaceutical care and ensure choice to consumers at a time when Canadians are increasingly turning to pharmacies for their healthcare advice and services.

Rexall Health will continue to have a dedicated management team in Canada under Pilla, while retaining the existing brand Canadians have come to know and trust. Pilla is expected to appoint a new president of Rexall Health in the future to provide day-to-day leadership for Rexall. His other direct report will be Paula Keays, president of McKesson Canada.

McKesson now expects Rexall Health to be flat to adjusted earnings per diluted share for Fiscal 2017 as earnings attributable to Rexall Health will be offset by an anticipated charge related to a fair value adjustment of acquired inventory. McKesson expects the acquisition will be 30 to 35 cents accretive to adjusted earnings per diluted share by the third year following the close of the transaction, on a constant currency basis.

- 05 Oct 2016

Adis, a global provider of drug information, has announced a partnership with biomarker information provider Amplion to enrich drug and clinical trial content in the AdisInsight platform with curated biomarker data.

The new data is fully integrated into the AdisInsight platform meaning that users can perform quick or advanced searches across the data, view biomarker information within drug and trial profiles, and include it with exports and alerts. Existing customers will automatically benefit from the addition of biomarker data as part of their subscription.

Established in 2012, Amplion have quickly grown to dominate the global biomarker business intelligence market. The flagship product, BiomarkerBase is the leading source of information about biomarkers used in drug development and diagnostic tests, tracking almost 80,000 biomarker uses worldwide by over 800 companies across 20 therapeutic areas.

The exclusive combination of data sets will support greater efficiency in R&D programs as users will be able to identify key biomarkers associated with a drug and understand how they were used in clinical trials to improve outcomes, and to reduce timelines. The enriched data will also provide greater insights into drug and disease landscapes, helping companies to identify new opportunities.

Biomarkers play a vital role in drug development and therapy. During the clinical phases, they can cut trial timelines through the use of progression and predictive markers and increase likelihood of approval by refining patient selection. In addition, they can be used to identify new drug targets for research and development. In the clinic, biomarkers are critical to patient care with advanced diagnostic tools and the development of precision medicines tailored to individual patients.

Adis will also provide Amplion with granular drug information to enable more sophisticated analyses within BiomarkerBase. For example, users of BiomarkerBase will be able to organise their results by Drug Class, Mechanism of Action or Indication to assess how a biomarker fits within a therapy landscape. Users of AdisInsight will also have the option to follow links to BiomarkerBase to seek out further information.

Amplion is a biomarker business intelligence company, and its flagship product BiomarkerBase, along with biomarker data mining and analytical services, deliver insights that inform key strategic decisions for drug and diagnostic test developers. Since 2012 Amplion has helped large and small companies alike make the best use of biomarkers in advancing precision therapeutics and next generation diagnostics.

Zynx Health and McKesson partner to optimise order set deployment
- 25 Jun 2015

Evidence- and experience-based clinical improvement solutions provider Zynx Health has announced the release of an exclusive integration between ZynxOrder® and Paragon® Hospital Information System release 13 from McKesson that makes order set management easy through automated content synchronization. This intuitive solution eliminates common integration challenges including time-consuming file-based uploads.

Hospitals and health systems using both solutions can now optimise their order set build and maintenance in ZynxOrder and then immediately export the order set content directly to Paragon with the click of a button. This streamlined process alleviates the excessive time and resource strains normally associated with the multiple steps and manual file uploads required by traditional content-integration methods.

A common challenge the industry has faced with order set deployment is lack of integration with electronic health records. While customers find value in evidence-based order sets, the duplication and resource constraints related to traditional content guidance solutions lead to suboptimal functionality and usability.

ZynxOrder editing and collaboration tools such as AuthorSpace and ViewSpace simplify usability and expedite deployment of order sets through defined workflows that enable clinicians to provide feedback and participate throughout the development process. By integrating ZynxOrder and Paragon, the instant exchange of content between the systems is facilitated in two ways: content built in ZynxOrder can be pushed to Paragon, and Paragon catalogue terms can be pushed to ZynxOrder – all with a single click.

According to Bertina Yen, executive vice-president of the product group at Zynx Health, this first integration between ZynxOrder and Paragon for full interoperability improves productivity and other operational efficiencies by significantly reducing manual input and eliminating duplicate efforts when building and deploying order sets. Streamlining this process delivers critical evidence-based content to the point of care faster to help clinicians reduce risk, and decrease decision uncertainty and practice variability.

Zynx Health announces general availability of Knowledge Analyzer
- 25 Jul 2014

Evidence- and experience-based clinical improvement solutions provider Zynx Health has announced the general availability of Knowledge Analyzer™, a scalable solution that helps organisations quickly realise the full value of electronic health record (EHR) systems.

Healthcare organisations typically have limited time to make meaningful adjustments to EHRs as they strive to quickly realise the technology's intended clinical and financial benefits. Unfortunately, without the inclusion of fine-tuned evidence-based content, many organisations fail to efficiently optimise their EHRs. As a result, these organisations may never realise the intended clinical benefits and promised financial savings of their EHR systems.

Knowledge Analyzer enables organisations to not only access—but to optimally leverage—clinical decision support, providing an opportunity to use EHRs to improve clinical outcomes, reduce readmissions, enhance financial performance, manage Value-Based Purchasing, and achieve Meaningful Use as well as other mandates.

With Knowledge Analyzer, healthcare organisations can quickly analyse vast amounts of clinical content against the most current evidence, bringing added transparency to clinical practice. The assessment will instantly pinpoint opportunities essential to decreasing care variation and improving performance in clinician practices, with a focus on the most vital interventions that advance clinical and financial outcomes.
