 IOS Press and TERI Press sign hosting agreement for three journals - 18 Apr 2013 STM publisher IOS Press, Netherlands, and TERI Press have reached an agreement to make TERI Press journals available through IOS Press. Metapress, IOS Press' online journal platform, will now host three of the TERI Press journals.
These journals are: the International Journal of Regulation and Governance, the Journal of Resource, Energy and Development and World Digital Library - An international Journal.
TERI Press is the publishing arm of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), a premier research institute in the areas of energy, environment, and sustainable development. The Press publishes academic journals and magazines, and several newsletters.  Project MUSE partners with HighWire Press - 04 Apr 2013 The Johns Hopkins University Press (JHUP) has reached an agreement with Stanford University's HighWire Press to transition to the HighWire Open Platform as the new digital hosting and delivery platform for Project MUSE.
Over the past year, JHUP and its digital publishing unit Project MUSE have conducted an extensive search for a technology partner to assist in expanding the capacity of Project MUSE to support its current content offering and allow MUSE to pursue opportunities in developing new products, business models and service offerings for its growing community of more than 200 publishers and 2700 libraries.
HighWire's history tracks very closely with that of Project MUSE, with similar missions and both having launched in 1995. Several of HighWire's publishing partners (Duke University Press, The Oxford University Press, and the University of Wisconsin Press) also have content on the MUSE platform.
The successful expansion of the Project MUSE publishing programme is highly dependent on an advanced delivery infrastructure that combines rich functionality, customisability and a collaborative relationship with an innovative vendor of proven track record such as HighWire.  AARC launches Respiratory Care journal and app on HighWire - 22 Mar 2013 The American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC) has announced the launch of Respiratory Care on the HighWire Open Platform. Respiratory Care is the official science journal of the AARC. The monthly peer-reviewed journal publishes articles pertaining to disorders affecting the cardiorespiratory system, including their diagnostic assessment, monitoring, prevention, and management, with an emphasis on improving all aspects of the care of individuals affected by respiratory disease.

 HighWire renews consortia sales support agreement with Dragonfly - 01 Feb 2013 HighWire, a division of Stanford University, has renewed its consortia sales support agreement with Dragonfly Sales and Marketing Consulting. The aim is to renew their commitment to support scholarly publishers in their efforts to reach library consortia in accessing a collection of high-impact life science content from the Independent Scholarly Publishers Group (ISPG). Dragonfly, led by Tom Taylor, offers sales and marketing services to academic publishing companies, societies and libraries internationally.
Working together with local sales agents during the past 18 months, Dragonfly, HighWire and 23 HighWire-affiliated publishers have provided access to top research to over 950 institutions throughout the world, over 30 consortia from the UK (JISC) to Sweden (BIBSAM), and from Korea (KESLI) to Australia (CAUL).
Publishers who work with HighWire typically run separate subscriber databases. The ISPG cross-publisher consortia support project seeks to provide a seamless solution to the often complex nature of negotiating and managing titles from autonomous publishers. With this offering, librarians may negotiate titles collectively and gather their readers' COUNTER usage reports across their entire consortium using a consolidated series of accounts on the HighWire portal.

 Duke University Press and HighWire Press expand partnership to include e-Duke Books Scholarly Collection - 18 Jan 2013 Duke University Press and HighWire Press, a not-for-profit division of Stanford University Libraries, have announced a major expansion of their partnership to include the e-Duke Books Scholarly Collection. Beginning with the 2014 collection, e-Duke Books, an annual collection of at least 100 new electronic books published by Duke University Press as well as more than 1,500 backlist titles, will move to HighWire's Open Platform and the newly developed Folio e-book solution.
With the launch of the e-Duke Books Scholarly Collection on HighWire, Duke University Press's readers and library subscribers will benefit from HighWire's long record of innovation and reliability.  HighWire incorporates article-level metrics with ImpactStory - 19 Dec 2012 HighWire Press, a not-for-profit division of Stanford University Libraries, has entered into a strategic collaboration with ImpactStory, a researcher led, non-profit organisation with a drive to help redefine the impact of research articles.
Article level metrics monitor the conversations around an article, as a complement to citation reports which measure a journal's overall impact. ImpactStory aggregates impact data – the number of times an article is accessed and mentioned in editorials, news, tweets and blogs, as well as bookmarked, favourited, and recommended, in addition to those cited by another research paper, from sources such as CrossRef, Mendeley and PubMed.
As part of the collaboration with ImpactStory, HighWire will manage the relationship on behalf of the participating publishers on the HighWire Open Platform, registering articles and displaying these metrics on their online journal and book sites.

Hugh is an experienced publisher, having spent nearly 4 years as Head of Publishing for the Wellcome Trust, where he was responsible for all web and print publications profiling the Trust's activities. While at Wellcome Trust, he helped formulate the proposal that would become eLife, a researcher-led digital publication to be hosted on HighWire later this year.
Prior to working at the Wellcome Trust, Hugh was a publisher at Nature Publishing Group, where he led the Nature Reviews collection of journals (2004‐2007), launched Nature Protocols, and later led the Nature Life Sciences collection of journals (2007‐2008).

 eLife selects HighWire platform for new OA journal - 13 Jun 2012 HighWire Press, a not-for-profit division of Stanford University Libraries, has announced that it has been selected by eLife, the new funder-researcher collaboration in science communication, as the platform for the latter’s new open access journal for life and biomedical science.
First announced in summer 2011, eLife is a researcher-led initiative for the best in science and science communication. Backed by the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, the Max Planck Society, and the Wellcome Trust, the initiative's first aim is to launch an open-access journal for outstanding advances in life science and biomedicine, which is also a platform for experimentation and showcasing innovation in research communication.
Set for launch in late 2012, the eLife journal will be a platform for maximising the reach and influence of new discoveries and to showcase new approaches to the presentation, use, and assessment of research. As an open-access journal, eLife will deliver access to content for free, online, immediately on publication, and will encourage maximum possible reach and utility of the content by publishing under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License, which is emerging as the gold standard for open‐access publishing.

 HighWire launches 1000th mobile website - 13 Mar 2012 HighWire Press, a not-for-profit division of Stanford University Libraries, has announced the launch of its one thousandth mobile website. This milestone was achieved in just over a year from the initial deployment of the HighWire Mobile Web product.
The latest mobile site to launch on HighWire is the American Journal of Respiratory and Critical Care Medicine (ajrccm.atsjournals.org), a publication of the American Thoracic Society. When a reader uses their smartphone device – iPhone, iPod Touch, Android, or BlackBerry – to access any of the ATS journals, they are automatically directed to the mobile-optimised version of the site.
HighWire's Mobile Web interface offers features such as streamlined display for small screens and cellular networks; current content, archived and 'ahead of print' material; abstract, extract, full text and PDF made available; mobile-friendly search page; standard authentication and sign-in options; article email sharing; journal branding and aesthetics; and support for advertising and custom buttons.

 HighWire Press appoints Kathy Law to support UK and European customers - 28 Feb 2012 HighWire Press, a not-for-profit division of Stanford University Libraries, has announced that industry insider Kathy Law has joined the HighWire team to support UK and European customers.
Kathy comes to HighWire with many connections in the global publishing marketplace, where she has been networking and selling within the Academic and STM community for book, journal and electronic product services for many years. She is a member of the ALPSP Professional Development Committee and has also worked with ICEDIS who work to improve EDI communications throughout the publishing supply chain.
Kathy comes to HighWire from Macmillan Publishing Solutions, where her role as Business Development Manager for the UK and EU territories covered sales, product development and efficiency solutions. Prior to that, she spent 10 years as Sales Manager with Turpin Distribution Services, a book and journal fulfillment operation, and was with Little, Brown as their Sales Manager for the UK Territory.

 HighWire Press announces key appointments - 05 Jan 2012 HighWire Press, a not-for-profit division of Stanford University Libraries, has announced the appointment of Bill Matthews as Director of Business Development, and Ed Braniff as Chief Operations Officer. The staff structural expansion is designed to further enhance HighWire’s organisational focus on innovation, community and customer service.
In his new role, Matthews will be responsible for the business development activities at HighWire including sales, marketing and strategic partnerships. With 25 years of experience and progressive responsibility in sales, marketing research, online publishing, and information industries, Matthews brings an outstanding pedigree of business practices to HighWire consisting of a consultative communication style, customer-focus approach, and a high degree of ethical standards.
He has held executive management positions at several online publishing technology companies, most recently at NetSeer, a web-based technology company focused on understanding user intent within a semantic framework. He also served as VP of Business Development at TACODA and had a successful term at I/PRO, the internet’s first website traffic verification service.
Edward Braniff has stepped up to take on the role of Chief Operations Officer at HighWire. Ed has been a consultant at HighWire since June 2011, working directly with HighWire’s Managing Director, and has been an integral part of HighWire's operational excellence and customer support initiatives.
Most recently, Ed has held senior level positions with a technology startup in Virginia and as the CFO for Cedar Group North America, the Financial Director of the company in London, and the Chief Operating Officer of North American operations. Ed has also provided interim management and held CFO, President and CEO positions in the automotive and packaging industry in the US and in Israel.

 American Institute of Physics and Publishing Technology partner to develop next generation Scitation - 01 Dec 2011 AIP Publishing, a division of the American Institute of Physics (AIP), has announced a partnership with UK-based publishing-specific software solutions provider Publishing Technology plc to build the next generation of AIP's Scitation, scheduled for launch in the fourth quarter of 2012.

 HighWire Press to host ECS Digital Library - 30 Nov 2011 The US' Electrochemical Society (ECS) has announced that it has awarded the hosting of its ECS Digital Library (ECS DL) to Stanfords University's HighWire Press, with a launch date anticipated for June 2012.
It has been noted that ECS' peer-reviewed journals have consistently ranked among the top international publications in their field (based on ISI Science Citation Index criteria). Its proceedings and extended meeting abstracts are said to provide scientists with a first look into current research. HighWire will not only be hosting ECS's legacy content of more than 75,000 papers and abstracts, but is expected to also offer a new set of opportunities for visibility and discoverability for future research published by the Society.

 GeoScienceWorld portal made available with HighWire's Open Platform tech - 22 Nov 2011 Non-profit organisation GeoScienceWorld (GSW) has announced a set of major portal upgrades. GSW's 40 journals will be delivered in an XML environment supported by HighWire's Open Platform technology. While the bulk of the platform changes are infrastructural and will be invisible to users, GSW is simultaneously releasing its new branded look and feel for the site and a new suite of user tools, including Google Maps-enabled advanced searching.
On the front end, the new three-column site design greatly enhances content visibility and discoverability for users. A goal of the design is to keep users in context as they conduct their research. Behind the scenes, the new HighWire infrastructure is designed to cooperate with emerging web services and technologies, as well as to comply with proven industry standards for content delivery.

 HighWire to increase delivery of mobile-optimised sites to over 900 by year-end - 27 Oct 2011 HighWire Press, a not-for-profit division of Stanford University Libraries, has announced that it will increase its delivery of mobile-optimised sites from 600 to over 900 by the end of 2011. This is seen to expand the opportunities for the community of HighWire affiliated publishers to extend their content and readership in new directions through smartphones and tablets. The move follows the latest release of the company's mobile platform.
The HighWire Open Platform architecture seeks to provide the flexibility needed to deliver mobile sites, mobile apps, mini-sites and other feature-rich options for HighWire-hosted publication sites. Current capabilities in the latest HighWire Mobile release include BlackBerry support, inter-article navigation, mobile advertising, article/issue search, multi-journal interface, and voucher service integration supporting institutional tethering.
At the recent HighWire Publishers' Meeting, held in Washington, D.C., not only did HighWire unveil its new mobile features, it also showcased a series of new products, services and strategic partnership agreements.  HighWire strengthens Publication Management team - 12 Jul 2011 HighWire Press, a not-for-profit division of Stanford University libraries, has announced the appointment of two high profile members to its Publication Management team - Judith Barnsby, based in the UK, and Bert Carelli, at its headquarters in California.
Judith Barnsby comes to HighWire with more than 20 years of experience in electronic publishing. Working for society publishers, she managed the relationships with a broad range of publishers. As head of e-Development at IOP Publishing, she was responsible for product management of their journal delivery platform and peer review/production system. Judith is currently chair of the UK's JISC PALS group of publishers and librarians working together to solve interoperability issues, and has also been involved in CrossRef, CLOCKSS, TRANSFER, and PEER among other industry initiatives.
Bert Carelli is also a veteran of the online information industry, most recently with Access Innovations, a semantics enrichment and information management company. His previous work included leading content acquisition teams for DeepDyve, Dow Jones/Factiva and Dialog, and creating partnerships between content providers and technology companies.

 HighWire Press and Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers announce strategic partnership - 17 May 2011 HighWire Press, a not-for-profit division of Stanford University libraries, has announced a strategic partnership with the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers (SMPTE). The deal is to create a vibrant new digital library built and hosted upon the HighWire Publishing platform.
The overarching theme of the project is to tie together the various elements of the Society's products, including the SMPTE Motion Imaging Journal, SMPTE conference proceedings, and its full suite of Standards, Recommended Practices, and Engineering Guidelines. Taxonomy development and application (for semantic enrichment purposes) are also key parts of the Digital Library initiative.

 HighWire Press realigns management structure, appoints Tom Rump as Managing Director - 28 Apr 2011 HighWire Press has announced that Stanford is renewing its commitment to HighWire's success through a significant investment over two years. HighWire will focus on driving innovation and further increasing operational efficiency. Working closely with HighWire's leadership team, Michael A. Keller, University Librarian and Founder/Publisher of HighWire, has realigned the organisation's management structure and appointed Tom Rump as Managing Director.
In his new position, Rump will be expected to strengthen HighWire's management processes and further develop its strategic plans. His most recent post was as General Manager of Wolters Kluwer company CT Summation Solutions, which provides software and Software as a Service (SaaS) solutions supporting enterprise content management, e-Discovery and litigation for Law Firms, Corporations and Government.
HighWire has also announced that Mark Calomeni has joined HighWire as Director of Engineering. Calomeni has a rich background in software engineering and R&D management, with experience ranging from large companies (Hewlett-Packard) to small. His most recent position was as Senior Vice President, Systems Engineering at nexTier Networks, Inc.
John Sack will continue as HighWire's Founding Director. He will focus on market assessment, client relations, technology innovation, and the kind of thought leadership and industry-forward thinking that has defined HighWire's mission since 1995.

 AIP Publishing re-launches Journal of Laser Applications on the Scitation hosting platform - 22 Mar 2011 AIP Publishing, a division of the American Institute of Physics (AIP), has announced the re-launch of the Laser Institute of America's Journal of Laser Applications (JLA) on AIP's innovative Scitation hosting platform. As part of a new strategic partnership agreement between the Laser Institute of America (LIA) and AIP, LIA designated AIP to publish their flagship journal on behalf of the society.
Scitation has infused JLA with a broad range of interactive features, helping users find the content they need more quickly. Researchers will discover redesigned abstract pages, including related articles, article outlines, and an article objects tab, which provides direct access to tables and figures. New table of contents pages offer expandable abstracts and keywords. JLA users will also benefit from enhanced search functions, including faceted results and intuitive search suggestions, which filter results and help them find relevant information more quickly.
In addition, JLA now features dynamic full-text HTML, including a slide-out navigation bar, inline links to references, and inline search, which reveals lists of popular related articles. JLA now also offers a streamlined mobile version of its website.

 Data Conversion Laboratory to perform conversion project for Highwire Press - 13 Oct 2010 Conversion services and software provider Data Conversion Laboratory, Inc. (DCL), US, has been selected to aid HighWire Press, a division of Stanford University Libraries, in an ongoing project to standardise files HighWire hosts online on behalf of scholarly publishers.
HighWire's original platform supported a number of SGML DTDs, including the Keton DTD, the HighWire DTD, and others. After participating in the research that ultimately gave rise to the National Library of Medicine (NLM)'s Journal Archiving and Interchange Tag Suite as an industry standard, HighWire adopted NLM XML as its new encoding model for journal content, while continuing to support other DTDs as well. With assistance from DCL, HighWire began the process of converting all legacy content originally cast in other DTDs to this new standard.
At present, DCL is working on converting the Keton SGML files and has already converted nearly 60,000 pages. The next segment of the project involves converting over one million pages. The first 225,000 page portion is scheduled for completion in 2010, the remainder to be delivered in 2011.

 American Institute of Physics launches new eBooks site for ASME - 29 Jul 2010 The American Institute of Physics (AIP) has announced the launch of a new eBooks site for ASME. AIP has made numerous new enhancements to its eBooks platform, designed to lend support to the marketing of recent ASME Press titles and ASME Handbooks & Manuals. By end of 2010, ASME's catalogue of eBooks hosted on AIP's Scitation C3 platform will reach nearly 100.
In addition to the features developed at ASME's request, AIP recently added other new features including the ability to download citations in a variety of formats, such as Bibtex, Endnote, and COinS; incorporation of OpenURL, a technology for linking web users to library catalogue resources; and the ability to e-mail an excerpt of a chapter.  AIP launches new online hosting platform using Atex Polopoly Web CMS - 13 Jul 2010 The American Institute of Physics (AIP) has released Scitation C3, an online discovery platform powered by the Atex Polopoly web content management system. The Polopoly Web CMS is said to provide the tools for AIP to integrate its publishing process with its hosting system, to build content-driven functionality, and to create new versions of its sites for use on mobile and tablet devices. Currently, the Polopoly system is hosting 12 AIP archival journals and three e-book sites, with plans to migrate all remaining AIP publications in the coming months.
AIP began using the Atex Polopoly Web CMS in 2008. The system's unified content approach is seen to allow AIP editors to publish content, create microsites, and build new web pages without requiring extensive technical expertise. The system is also observed to have given AIP a highly reliable architecture that is scalable and efficient enough to support its current and future demands. For C3, the Polopoly system provides an administration GUI (graphical user interface) control panel that lets AIP's web managers customise the entire user experience without writing a single line of code.
Scitation hosts 2 million articles from more than 200 scholarly publications for 28 learned society publishers. C3 features an XML foundation and flexible Polopoly framework for multi-channel distribution of content and services. The system is claimed to enable publishers and end-users to interact with content from a single system, creating an environment for content producers to open up future publishing channels.
Key to C3's design is a new abstract rendering feature that includes an 'article object' browser. Subscribers can now view all tables and figures in an article directly from the abstract view, which is where many researchers begin their interaction with an article. Other elements contained in the full XML article, such as the outline and sectioning, can be surfaced on the abstract page, providing quick access to the article's content.
Moving forward, AIP will continue using Polopoly to enhance Scitation's features and functionality, including: more advanced tagging and categorisation; greater integration with popular web applications to accommodate features such as mash-ups and geographic tracking; flexible publisher tools for adding and controlling content in real time; and enriched functionality for non-journal content such as books, standards, magazines and newsletters.

 AAPM journal first to migrate to AIP's Scitation C3 platform - 09 Jul 2010 The American Institute of Physics (AIP) has announced that Medical Physics, a journal from the American Association of Physicists in Medicine (AAPM), has gone live on Scitation C3, the next-generation hosting platform. This is the first in a projected plan by AIP to migrate all its publishing partner journals to Scitation C3 by end of 2010.
AIP made significant upgrades to the platform this year, particularly by incorporating MarkLogic Server and a Polopoly web content management system, which provide users with an XML-enabled functionality that significantly reduces discovery and reading time.
The new Medical Physics homepage includes a 'Just Published' RSS feed and 'Editor's Picks' articles, while abstracts include links for 'Related Content' and access to article objects (figures, tables, multimedia, etc.). Members and subscribers who log-in come across added tools for article objects, including the ability to export figures to PowerPoint. Mobile phone users will be automatically redirected to the streamlined mobile version of the site.

 AIP transfers 12 archival journals to Scitation C³ next-generation hosting platform - 16 Mar 2010 The American Institute of Physics (AIP) has announced the migration of its 12 archival journals to its Scitation C³ next-generation hosting platform. All Scitation publications will migrate to the C³ platform in the coming months. Central to the implementation is an agile development environment utilising a new Mark Logic content server and Polopoly web content management system.
Key to the new design is a new object browser, allowing subscribers to view all tables and figures in an article directly from the abstract view, where majority of researchers begin their interaction with the article. Other objects from within the full-article XML, such as the article's acknowledgement section and an article outline based on the article's section structure, surface on the page providing quick access to the article's content.
Scitation C³ also features a new, interactive full-article HTML rendering, including greatly improved visual presentation of inline math. In-context links to actionable references, figures, and tables save researchers from wasting time navigating around the document. Other interactive features include the ability to highlight any term within an article to produce a list of related content. To further facilitate fast discoverability, AIP journals now allow one to create ‘Smart ToCs,’ enabling the user to tailor the listing to his/her interests, harvest citations, preview abstracts with a mouse click, and hide content that isn't relevant. AIP has also added greater utility to the search functions of its journal pages, with more options and better controls to explore returned content with faceted results, based on article type, topic, author, keyword, PACS, journal, and publication year. Faceted search helps researchers find information quickly by presenting them with a set of ‘filters’ to refine search results.

 Atypon to power Oldenbourg’s new publishing platform - 19 Jan 2010 Information services provider Atypon Systems, Inc., US, has announced that academic publisher Oldenbourg Verlagsgruppe, Germany, is using Atypon's software to power its just-launched publishing platform for its journals and books.
The Oldenbourg Verlagsgruppe, which includes its subsidiary Akademie Verlag, publishes 40 journals and more than 400 new books each year, the latter of which are being made available in digital format for the first time. In addition, more than 3,000 backlist titles are in the process of being digitised.
The new platform (www.oldenbourg-link.com), which is hosted by Atypon, is available in English and in German. It provides a host of capabilities to librarians and researchers, including the ability to download e-book MARC records for integration with library cataloguing systems.

 Atypon to power next generation informaworld publishing platform - 13 Jan 2010 Information services provider Atypon Systems, Inc., US, has announced that academic publisher Taylor & Francis Group has selected its software to power the next generation of the informaworld publishing platform.
A division of Informa plc, Taylor & Francis Group includes such imprints as CRC Press, Psychology Press, and Routledge. It publishes more than 1,400 journals and 3,000 new books each year and maintains an e-book backlist of 25,000 titles and a print backlist of 50,000 titles.
Atypon will host the next-generation informaworld platform. According to Atypon, this is expected to bring in significant cost savings to the publisher. With this move AIP, seeks to strengthen its position as a leader in the development of innovative technologies for STM publishing.
Users will find the functionality of Scitation-hosted journal pages greatly enhanced, enabled by an XML (Extensible Markup Language) infrastructure that can turn granular markup into meaningful content services, reduce discovery time, and dynamically connect similar concepts and expose related content without user interaction. One of the many new features available on Scitaton C³ is full-text HTML rendering, direct from XML.  Symyx unveils hosted informatics software for pharma researchers - 19 Oct 2009 Symyx Technologies, Inc., a US-based provider of technologies for R&D, has announced the launch of hosted informatics software for researchers working in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology and chemical industries and academia.  Cambridge University Press and FiledBy partner to provide websites for academic and professional authors - 11 Sep 2009 Academic publisher Cambridge University Press has announced a partnership with FiledBy to provide over 100 Cambridge authors with websites on the FiledBy marketing platform.  Three new customers opt for ebrary’s services for distribution of digitised material - 12 Aug 2009 Digital content products and technologies provider ebrary, US, has announced that Wellesley College, DuocUC and Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics have selected its content hosting services to distribute a variety of digitised materials online.

 HighWire Press witnesses increase in books hosting programme - 29 May 2009 HighWire Press, a division of the Stanford University Libraries, has announced a marked increase in the growth of its books programme. Over 30 new titles have been launched online so far this year and hundreds more are scheduled through 2009 and early 2010.
For many years, HighWire has developed and hosted non-journal content, such as books, reference works, databases, continuing education and conference proceedings sites. According to the company, the quantity of books and reference works going live or planning to launch with HighWire has increased in recent years as publishers are seeking greater integration between journals and other online content. Recent book and reference work sites launched on HighWire include Oxford Medical Handbooks, published by Oxford University Press; Handbook of Practice Management, published by The Royal Society of Medicine Press; CSH Symposia on Quantitative Biology, published by Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory Press; The Lyell Collection, Special Publications, published by the Geological Society of London; and The Carlyle Letters Online, an historical correspondence site, published by Duke University Press.

 SWOSU launches digital repository using ebrary technology - 28 May 2009 Digital content products and technologies provider ebrary, US, has announced that Southwestern Oklahoma State University (SWOSU) has launched its digital repository using the company's hosted e-publishing services. Available online at http://site.ebrary.com/lib/swosudr, the publicly accessible site features the full run of SWOSU's historical yearbooks dating 1906-1993 and will soon include the archive of its student newspaper The Southwestern.

 HighWire-hosted journals rank high among SLA's Top 100 Journals in Biology and Medicine - 01 Apr 2009 Online technology provider in scholarly publishing HighWire Press, a division of the Stanford University Libraries, has announced that HighWire-hosted journals account for 37 of the top 100 journals in Biology and Medicine, according to SLA's BioMedical & Life Sciences Division.
In conjunction with SLA's Centennial, the division conducted a poll to identify the 100 most influential journals of Biology & Medicine over the last 100 years. HighWire-hosted journals made up the single largest group among the 100 selected.

 Royal Society Journals launched on Highwire - 23 Feb 2009 Royal Society Publishing has announced that its online journal content is now hosted on the HighWire H2O platform. The new domain http://royalsocietypublishing.org replaces the site on MetaPress. Title-level redirects are now in place until the end of April on the old MetaPress site to take users automatically to the relevant journal homepage on HighWire where all journal content, 1665 to the present day, is now loaded. To give libraries time to check their e-access accounts and make necessary changes all content is open to visitors until March 31. After that date only subscribers will be able to access current content for Royal Society journals.
HighWire's H2O platform infrastructure is designed to cooperate with emerging web services and technologies, keeping publishers ahead of the curve. Because the system architecture seamlessly accommodates content structured in different ways, H2O is designed not only to accommodate the latest technology, but also to anticipate the technology of the future.  AIP and APS release redesigned website for Virtual Journals Series - 17 Feb 2009 The American Institute of Physics and American Physical Society, co-publishers of the Virtual Journals in Science and Technology (VJ) series, have announced the release of a completely redesigned website for the Virtual Journals. The series currently includes five publications, covering the areas of applications of superconductivity, biological physics research, nanoscale science & technology, quantum information, and ultrafast science.
The Virtual Journals are hosted on AIP's Scitation online platform and benefit greatly from the 2008 content redesign of article abstract pages. Highlighting that redesign are a number of features that offer users enhanced interactivity with journal content, and greater latitude in utilising the information provided. A tabbed environment has improved readability and navigation throughout the site, and provided easy access to lists of linked references and citing articles. In addition, navigation to higher levels of the journals, now appear as "breadcrumb" links in the upper left of each abstract; citation downloads, including DOIs, to standard bibliographic formats can also be found for Scitation-hosted source journals.
Finally, the focus of each individual VJ is now on the content of the current issue, with this content displayed on the VJ's homepage. Additional space is also dedicated to news items, which will allow readers to access a greater number of older news items, which until now have been removed after a brief time period.

 AAS' Astronomy Education Review launches on AIP's Scitation hosting platform - 11 Feb 2009 The American Institute of Physics (AIP) has announced the launch on its Scitation online hosting platform of Astronomy Education Review (AER), an open access journal published by the American Astronomical Society (AAS). Astronomy Education Review was established in 2001 to communicate new ideas and resources for teaching and outreach in astronomy and space sciences.
Scitation's extensive reach and functionality is expected to enhance the discoverability of AER content through a number of critical features, including XML tagging, Google indexing, CrossRef linking, and RSS feeds and table of contents alerts. Additional functionality will be brought to bear through hosting on Scitation via a number of article and Web 2.0 tools, including the ability to download/view citations in a variety of styles, such as Bibtex, Endnote, and COinS format. AIP will also see to the preservation and archiving of AER content by delivering the journal's electronic files to the Portico archive.
In addition, AIP Publishing Services currently provides production services for Astronomy Education Review.  Publishing Technology publishes case studies on two archive digitisation projects - 23 Jan 2009 Publishing Technology, a UK-based provider of software and services for the publishing industry, has announced the publication of two case studies exploring the benefits of digitising backfiles. Two scholarly publishers - Netherlands-based Brill and US-based OceanSide Publications - recently took their journal archives online. The Publishing Technology case studies outline these projects and the benefits realised.
Brill, a humanities and social sciences publisher, set out to deliver 60,000 journal articles dating back to 1850 to the modern researcher. The project, which coincides with the company's 325th anniversary, was established to increase visibility and improve sales. With 90 percent of the backfiles already available, sales have grown 8-10 percent this year as Brill has increased its traffic through IngentaConnect, Publishing Technology's scholarly research platform. Also, the company has been able to increase its fees for pay-per-view and subscription access as it is now able to offer more to its customers. According to the company, the academic community's reception of the project has been so positive that the JISC has purchased the entire archive on behalf of the UK higher education community.
OceanSide Publications, a medical publisher, wished to convey the depth of its 20 years of research to the community. It sought tools from Publishing Technology to remain competitive and build credibility by showcasing the breadth of its work and amount of time in the industry through the Internet. Since the project's completion in 2007, OceanSide has reportedly recognised many benefits. These include the ability to introduce and experiment with new business models, resulting in an increase in subscriptions, additional article sales via pay-per-view, as well as increased usage of content. Although the full subscription price increased following the addition of the backfiles, the entire package is being purchased more frequently than more limited subscription options.

 Special print issue of BioMed Central journal made available at Epigenetics, Development & Human Disease symposium - 05 Jan 2009 Open access publisher BioMed Central, UK, has announced that following the successful launch of the journal Epigenetics & Chromatin, a special print issue containing some of the first articles will be available at the Keystone Symposium 'Epigenetics, Development & Human Disease,' scheduled for January 5-10 in Breckenridge, Colorado. The special print issue will be in circulation at the symposium.
Epigenetics & Chromatin co-Editor-in-Chief, Steven Henikoff, will give the Keynote Address on the opening evening of the symposium. Over the course of the meeting Editorial Board members William Kelly, Amanda Fisher, Barbara Meyer and Timothy Bestor will each chair a session of lectures.
Epigenetics & Chromatin is a peer-reviewed open access online journal, which publishes articles that provide novel insights into epigenetic inheritance and chromatin-based interactions. The journal fulfills the need for a journal that reflects the breadth of epigenetic research. Topics include, but are not limited to, gene silencing and imprinting, cellular reprogramming, nucleosome modification assembly and remodeling, DNA methylation, chromatin structure and dynamics, chromosomal maintenance elements, dosage compensation, interchromosomal interactions and prion inheritance.
