Sheridan expands print management system to accommodate self-service Pod orders
- 29 Sep 2015

Sheridan, a provider of print, publishing services and technology solutions to publishers, associations, university presses, and cataloguers, has expanded its automated print management system, Sheridan Select, to include a self-service component granting publishers the ability to upload a book or journal title and place a print-on-demand (POD) order within a single transaction.

Upon logging in to the Sheridan Select portal and initiating a POD order, publishers are now provided the ability to define and order brand new titles in addition to selecting from their existing titles. They are guided through an easy-to-use title setup process with dropdown menus that help define their product.

Once the title setup is complete, they attach print files, and place their order. The entire process takes only a few minutes to complete, presenting significant time savings and efficiency to publishers. Once the print files arrive in the Sheridan Electronic Warehouse (making them available for future orders) the pending order is automatically cleared for print. Orders are fed directly to Sheridan’s digital print division for automated POD and fulfillment.

Sheridan continues to expand functionality of print management platform, Sheridan Select
- 22 Apr 2014

Sheridan, a provider of print, publishing services and technology solutions to publishers, associations, university presses, and cataloguers, continues to expand functionality of their print management platform Sheridan Select™. With this newest release, publishers gain the ability to have incoming orders processed automatically upon upload. Sheridan Select can programmatically process incoming book and journal print orders from publisher business systems including production management, inventory management, member/subscriber systems, and eCommerce sites.

This Sheridan-developed interface represents a first in fully automated print order submission and processing. The data-driven intake and response system significantly reduces or eliminates manual touch-points typical of publisher print programs. Sheridan Select is a rules-based operating system, meaning the system will automatically channel and process print orders based on pre-established publisher preferences.

Once implemented, the benefits are significant. The publisher has a single point of entry from which to submit requests from various sources. The system-to-system interface yields time-savings by reducing or eliminating manual involvement, by centralising and consolidating processes, and simplifying production logistics. An overarching benefit is reduced costs.

The flexibility and power of Sheridan Select as a sophisticated central print management system spans the print continuum, featuring digital toner, digital inkjet, and offset print for case and perfect-bound books and journals. Applications for use include: Subscriber/Member/Back Issue Management; Zero Warehousing; Global Distribute and Print; Automated Initial Print, Reprint, and POD Order Processing; eCommerce and Print on Demand (direct to consumer down to a single printed copy); Online-Only Title Programs utilizing Print on Demand with Print Subscription Management; and Event and Targeted Marketing Needs and Custom Collections.

To track orders and help administer program parameters, Sheridan Select also generates multiple report formats from the Select administration modules and delivers them directly to publishers.

The Sheridan Group releases next generation publishing solution for managing offset and digitally produced books and journals
- 25 Feb 2013

Print, publishing services and technology solutions provider The Sheridan Group has released Sheridan Select, a next generation publishing solution for managing offset and digitally produced books and journals. A feature-rich architecture gives book and journal publishers a single point for order entry, significantly streamlining the process of ordering and managing a range of print products - from 'one-off' print-on-demand to print runs in the thousands in both perfect and case-bound finishing.

Publisher benefits – versatility, simplicity, and efficiency – are achieved through the use of one or all of three modules: Central Product Management, Automated Order Fulfillment and Global Production & Delivery.

Sheridan Select's secure print management dashboard lets the publisher upload files, order initial print and reprints, track orders and review order history. The publisher has the power to choose whether a book or journal order is produced on toner, inkjet, or offset equipment. Orders can be channelled to multiple print locations simultaneously as well as to multiple output devices.

Sheridan Select's powerful Automated Order Fulfillment function integrates print ordering systems with print fulfillment systems. Orders are generated by directly accessing publisher XML data, publisher inventory control, or subscriber services systems. Sheridan Select is also fully integrated with Sheridan's existing subscriber, fulfillment, and warehousing software systems. This integration creates a particularly effective eCommerce solution for online-only titles and custom collections.

Importantly, the system is fully integrated with Sheridan's global distribute and print offering, Content Delivery Alliance (CDA), giving further agility and economy to publishers who distribute content worldwide. This function channels print orders to global production sites based on publisher established business rules. Distribution data is read and filtered according to ISO world-region global print standards. Sheridan Select even handles split shipments – domestic and global.

Sheridan Digital Select streamlines digital print ordering
- 24 Mar 2011

Print and publishing services provider The Sheridan Press has introduced Sheridan Digital Select, an online ordering interface that seeks to offer greater convenience to publishers ordering digitally produced perfect-bound publications. This interface represents a significant enhancement to Sheridan's rapidly expanding state-of-the-art digital print platform. Publisher print-on-demand requirements, from 'one-off' publications to hundreds of copies, are now even more easily achieved.

Sheridan Digital Select represents a best-in-class response to publisher's evolving manufacturing requirements. Beyond just the general expanding use of digital printing, growing numbers of publishers are seen to be eliminating warehousing costs by adopting a 'zero inventory' warehousing model - printing only the exact numbers of copies required at the time of initial printing then fulfilling subsequent print needs digitally. Similarly, subscriber requests for printed versions of 'online only' publications are becoming more frequent, it has been observed. The fulfillment of all such requests for digitally printed publications is now accommodated using the Digital Select portal.

The Sheridan Press is a full-service print and publishing services provider to scientific, technical, medical, and scholarly journals and special interest publications. The Press also offers a wide range of technology solutions from an e-content suite to digital editions to mobile editions.
