Online document sharing and publishing company Scribd has announced its new Qualified Publisher Program (QPP), which seeks to allow publishers to proactively fight piracy of copyrighted document. The programme's Text Matching System compares documents that users upload against those contributed to a filter by copyright holders, and blocks those deemed to be copyrighted material. This system provides copyright holders with control over the distribution and viewing of their copyrighted materials through Scribd.
Publishers of e-books, newspapers, periodicals and traditional books, government agencies and trade journals can register online and can create a Scribd 'Shelf' where they can securely post and distribute their own content through the site. They can also manage distribution groups and discussions on the content. Publishers can also use Scribd's publishing tools such as embeddable document-viewing widgets, search engine optimisation and various download formats.
In an attempt to help high-volume publishers, Scribd is also developing new features such as advanced metrics, the ability to track sales conversions on Amazon.com and custom integration with other websites.
