Springer set to launch new journal - Tropical Plant Biology -

STM publisher Springer, Germany, has announced the launch of a new journal, Tropical Plant Biology. Paul H. Moore, recently retired from the US Department of Agriculture, Agricultural Research Service, and Ray Ming of the Department of Plant Biology, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, Urbana, will serve as editors-in-chief of the journal, the first issue of which is scheduled for March 2008. They will be supported by an editorial board comprising international scientists. The advisory board will include heads of leading plant institutes as well as influential researchers in plant biology.

To be published quarterly, Tropical Plant Biology will report on significant advances in all aspects of tropical plant biology as well as applications towards genetic diversity and crop improvement. The journal will cover the most rapidly advancing aspects of tropical plant biology including physiology, evolution, development, cellular and molecular biology, cytology, genetics, genomics, comparative genomics, genomic ecology and molecular breeding. It will publish articles of original research as well as review articles. Occasional special issues focused on a single tropical crop species or breakthrough will also be published. The journal joins the growing number of new plant science journals in Springer's publishing portfolio.

Springer will publish Tropical Plant Biology both online and in print. The journal will include Online First, Cross Reference Linking and Alert services. In addition, all authors, via the Springer Open Choice programme, have the option of publishing their articles using the open access publishing model.
