E-book technology firm ebrary, US, has announced that the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) has chosen its technology to distribute and archive over 100,000 e-books as part of the Scholars Portal services. Scholars Portal offers all 20 Ontario universities a growing collection of scholarly content including nearly 13 million journal articles and 200 abstract and index databases.
Under the deal, OCUL will be one of the first customers for ebrary's standalone licensed product - code named ISIS - that is hosted on the customers' servers, behind their firewalls. ISIS is currently in its last phase of development and is slated to ship in 2008. In addition to providing customers with complete control over their own digitised collections, ISIS will offer the same rich functionality as ebrary's current hosted solution.
OCUL is a consortium of twenty university libraries in the province of Ontario. The member libraries cooperate to enhance information services through resource sharing, collective purchasing, document delivery and many other similar activities.
