Dr. Beth Y. Karlan named new Editor-in-Chief for Gynecologic Oncology -

Dr. Beth Y. Karlan has been named the new Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Gynecologic Oncology, effective January 1, 2008. Dr. Karlan replaces Dr. David M. Gershenson, who has stepped down following 17 years as Editor-in-Chief of the journal.

Dr. Karlan is the Director of the Women's Cancer Research Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, Los Angeles, and is also a Professor of Obstetrics and Genecology at the David Geffen School of Medicine at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). A long-time member of the SGO, Dr. Karlan has held a number of leadership positions within the Society, including serving as a member of the Communications, Government Relations, Informatics, and Program committees (of which she was Program Chairman).

To assist in the journal's publication, Dr. Karlan has selected a new, scientifically diverse editorial board and four new deputy Editors. These include Dr. Robert E. Bristow of the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions; Dr. Barbara A. Goff of the University of Washington; Dr. Stephen C. Rubin of the University of Pennsylvania and Dr. Anil K. Sood of the Anderson Cancer Center. The newly appointed team will work to raise the impact of the Journal in the medical community while ensuring that the publications are innovative and clinically relevant, and meet the highest standards of scientific integrity.

The Journal of Gynecologic Oncology is the official publication of the Society of Gynecologic Oncologists (SGO). The journal is devoted to the publication of clinical and investigative articles that concern tumors of the female reproductive tract.
