Open access publisher BioMed Central, US, has announced that its peer-reviewed journal Neural Development has joined the Neuroscience Peer Review Consortium (NPRC), an alliance of neuroscience journals that have agreed to accept manuscript reviews from other members of the Consortium. By joining the consortium, the publisher expects to further streamline the already rapid peer review of Neural Development to the benefit of authors, reviewers, editors and the journal's readership.
The NPRC was initiated to reduce the time and effort involved in the peer review of original neuroscience research reports. Under the new system, neuroscience journals with membership have agreed to accept manuscript reviews from other Consortium journals. By reducing the number of times that a manuscript is reviewed, the Consortium seeks to increase the speed of publication of research results, and lessen the burden on both authors and reviewers alike.
Neuroscience journals such as Neuroscience and Journal of Neuroscience have already joined the consortium, with many more, including BioMed Central's Behavioral and Brain Functions in the process of joining.
