CED report moots open access to improve healthcare system -

The Committee for Economic Development (CED), a non-profit, non-partisan think-tank, recently released a report which prescribes openness in medicine, including open-access publishing of research data, as a way for improving the healthcare system. The researchers, led by Eliot Maxwell, look at OA as a transformative lens for the healthcare sector.

The research report's 60 pages of text are accompanied by 335 endnotes, and carry the principles and ideas of open source and open access through the entire healthcare system. Among other topics, the report also touches on topics such as sharing data from clinical trials and the regulatory challenges of medical device 'homebrewing'.

CED comprises more than 200 business leaders and university presidents. Since 1942, its research and policy programmes have addressed many of the most pressing economic and social issues in the US. The organisation promotes policies to produce increased productivity and living standards, greater and more equal opportunity for every citizen, and an improved quality of life for all.
