The National Federation of Advanced Information Services (NFAIS) recently announced that Robert J. Massie, President, Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS), was presented with the Miles Conrad Award at the NFAIS Annual Conference and 50th Anniversary celebration in Philadelphia. The objective of the Miles Conrad Memorial Lecture, established in 1965 in commemoration of NFAIS founder, G. Miles Conrad, is to recognise and honour those members of the Information Community who have made significant contributions to the field of information science and to NFAIS itself.
Robert Massie is a well-known and respected member of the global Information Community. He took the helm of CAS in 1992. Under his leadership, CAS was transformed and emerged to celebrate its 100th anniversary in 2007 as the leading provider of information in chemistry and the related sciences.
Massie is a member of the Boards of Directors of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce, TechColumbus, and the Columbus Partnership and has also served on several private and public company boards. He has authored a number of papers, and speaks frequently to industry groups on the subject of scientific research in the digital age.
Massie joins a list of Miles Conrad Lecturers who are representative of the leaders and creative thinkers of the information world. His lecture, entitled CAS in the New Information Order, will be made available on the NFAIS website at http://www.nfais.org/ later this month. This was the 42nd such lecture in a series that has continued unbroken since it began in 1968.
