The University of Zurich (UZH) is reportedly taking steps to boost the rate of deposits to its institutional repository, Zurich Open Repository and Archive (ZORA). The growth rate of deposits has been slow despite the open access mandate it adopted in July 2005.
According to a university representative, the implementation of the mandate to deposit all UZH publications on the institutional server is under way. ZORA currently has 2241 documents with 35 percent 'legal' full-text papers. There has been a delay due to a change of platform.
For the academic report of 2008 all scientific publications of UZH will be harvested from ZORA and for this purpose an automated interface will be established, it has been noted.
Experts have observed that UZH can urge authors to deposit their articles directly into the repository immediately upon acceptance for publication. Under the current practice, librarians are implementing it as an annual backlog.
