Hearst Corporation acquires Map of Medicine from Informa Plc -

Media Company Hearst Corporation recently announced the acquisition of UK-based Map of Medicine, a leading provider of evidence-based health-care resources. Formerly owned by Informa plc, Map of Medicine will now be managed in London as a separate operating unit of Hearst Business Media. The announcement was made by Victor F. Ganzi, president & CEO, Hearst Corporation, and Richard P. Malloch, president of Hearst Business Media.

Map of Medicine's "Map" is designed to improve patient care and is a vital component of the UK's National Health Service (NHS) modernisation programme known as Connecting for Health. It offers clinical information visualised in 392 patient pathways and is available entirely as a Web application, making it efficient to set up.

In mid 2007, Informa reportedly conducted a review of the Map and concluded that new investment would be required to successfully compete in the rapidly growing online clinical support services market. As Zynx Health, a Hearst company, was already the clear market leader in evidence-based clinical information in the US, operating in over 1300 hospitals, and Informa had no other products in the sector, Informa approached Hearst to review opportunities for co-operation. It was decided that a combination of Zynx Health order sets and care plans and Map pathways can make a compelling long term proposition to satisfy clinical needs across the globe. With its established market leading position, Hearst would be the natural owner.

The entire Map team will transfer with the business which will become Map of Medicine Ltd and will remain London-based.
