New survey to identify shifting challenges and priorities for scholarly societies -

A recently launched international survey 'Meeting the challenges: societies and scholarly communication' aims to gain insight and understanding of the professional challenges facing scholarly societies across the world in the 21st century. Aimed at top-level society executives, the survey seeks to address critical issues for societies with regard to membership and publishing. The results of the survey will be published as a free white paper, which SAGE believes will be of benefit to all society publishers and member organisations.

The survey is being conducted by academic publisher SAGE, with the support of the Association for Learned Professional and Scholarly Publishers; the Professional/Scholarly Publishing Division of the Association of American Publishers; the International Association for Science, Technical and Medical Publishers, and the Federation of Behavioral, Psychological and Cognitive Sciences. Results from the survey will be made freely available in the autumn.

Conducted online, the survey will be available until September 22, 2008, at http://www.surveymonkey.com/s.aspx?sm=Y7V5kQX_2bDr7Vb46c1grbYg_3d_3d. All respondents will be able to register to receive a copy of the report when it is published.
