Vertical search services and technologies provider Convera Corporation, US, has announced an agreement with specialist publisher United Publications, US, to build three vertical search engines for their portfolio. The first two are for their Security print brands serving professional communities involved in security systems, security installations and security consultancy in the US and Europe. The third is for Home Medical Equipment, serving home medical equipment services providers, including traditional dealers and suppliers, distributors and manufacturers.
Vertical search sites, toolbars and widgets are increasingly being seen by business publishers as a way of extending their brands into the essential workflow of their online communities. United Publications community of users will benefit from being able to use such tools alongside their market-leading events, publications and websites.
Earlier this month, Convera launched vertical search sites for the Journal of Family Practice and Current Psychiatry, in conjunction with Dowden Health Media (DHM). Also, in September 2008, the company announced the launch of search.optics.org (search.optics.org), a vertical search site for the global photonics industry, together with IOP Publishing.
