The Association of Learned and Professional Society Publishing (ALPSP), the international trade association for scholarly and professional publishers, is conducting a one day seminar titled Medical Journals: Adding Value to Primary Content. The event, scheduled for January 15, 2009, in London, will be useful for journal publishers/journal managers at all levels of experience.
With primary research literature becoming increasingly accessible through a variety of channels, the role of the traditional journal is being called into question. Many journals are developing features to interpret or supplement their primary content. Technology offers opportunities to develop new services for the online journal user. Medical journals in particular could add value through novel features that meet the information needs of their busy clinical readership, whose expectations of what the internet can provide are growing. This seminar will present examples of some successful developments and will help delegates consider what might be suitable for their own journals.
The ALPSP has over 350 organisational members in 37 countries who collectively publish over 10,000 journals as well as books, databases and other products. The association seeks to connect, train and inform the scholarly and professional publishing community and to be an advocate on behalf of the non-profit publishing sector.
