Nielsen Book, part of global information and media company Nielsen Company, UK, has responded to the recent E4Libraries BIC Category Headings announcement by immediately applying the initiative to all the titles in its database - over 8 million records in total. Using Nielsen Book's services, libraries will now be able to browse titles under BIC-based standard subject/genre categories, in addition to existing Dewey classifications.
The BIC E4Libraries Category Headings is a key element of the E4Libraries initiative which aims to reduce cost, streamline workflows and automate the categorisation process. Nielsen Book wholly supports the E4Libraries initiative and has announced that it will provide another key component which will lead to improved working practices in libraries.
Nielsen Book offers a wide range of data and transaction services for libraries, which include BookData Online, Catalogue Enrichment, UKMARC and MARC21 outputs, BookScan for Libraries and BookNet EDI. The latest to join the list, LibScan, is due for launch in 2009. LibScan will collect and measure borrowing figures.
