Healthcare knowledge management solutions provider Unbound Medicine, US, has announced that its platform now supports application download to Apple iPhone and iPod touch devices. Adding delivery of iPhone applications to existing support for BlackBerry, Windows Mobile and Palm OS devices is seen to further strengthen Unbound Medicine's position as a leading provider of point-of-care clinical information in the healthcare segment.
The first native iPhone application to become available on the Unbound Platform is Nursing Central, a nursing application that provides up-to-date information on diseases, tests, drugs and procedures. Designed to take full advantage of the iPhone's visual and navigational support, Nursing Central also provides cross-links connecting related information and personalised bookmarking of favourite topics. It is the first of many iPhone applications arriving soon from Unbound Medicine.
Unbound's interface leverages the iPhone's Internet capabilities by delivering frequent content updates, tables of contents from just-published journals, and citations and abstracts from more than 18 million medical journal articles.
Wireless handheld devices such as Blackberry, iPhone and PDA are becoming increasingly popular among the academic community. Handheld devices are being projected as an ideal platform for mobile learning and reference, particularly in medical education and practice. In November 2008, Unbound Medicine released new 'digitally born' products developed in partnership with Merck & Co., Inc. The new products extended the Merck Manual franchise with a new database focused on the assessment and treatment of patient symptoms. Using these products on the Unbound Platform, end users can access the integrated content using all major technologies of the day - iPhone, BlackBerry, Windows Mobile, Palm or the web.
Earlier in October 2008, business information provider Thomson Reuters released the latest version of its Charge Capture solution - Clinical Xpert Charge Capture 2.0. Clinical Xpert Charge Capture 2.0 allows physicians to record charges and procedures via their BlackBerry smartphones and Palm and Windows Mobile handheld devices, regardless of location.
