OUP deploys Thomson Reuters tool JADE to examine and expand subscriber base -

Thomson Reuters, a US-based provider of information for businesses and professionals, has announced that Oxford University Press (OUP) has selected its Journal Analysis Database Expanded (JADE) to conduct a targeted analysis of OUP journals' market penetration and potential.

In order to increase its subscriber base, OUP needed to construct a more accurate picture of its current subscribers and non-subscribers. OUP made use of the JADE database to undertake a 'gap' analysis that helped identify a core of non-subscribing institutions whose researchers were nevertheless contributing significant numbers of papers.

JADE is a new, customised database that is projected to provide the business intelligence necessary to inform decisions and direct future strategies. The tool joins Thomson Reuters content and metrics with partner Ringgold's 'Open Identify' technology. The database is seen to uniquely and appropriately identify an institution and its relationships with subsidiaries, thereby providing information that solves a major issue for publishers, libraries and universities around the world. Users can clarify authors' publishing activity and citations in journals, as well as identify current or past subscribers. JADE uses citation data to specify who a journal's subscribers are; what institution they are associated with; and which journals they are reading, citing and submitting to.
