International grant competition Digging into Data Challenge launched -

The UK's Joint Information Systems Committee together with the National Endowment for the Humanities, the USA's National Science Foundation and Canada's Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council have announced an international grant competition - the Digging into Data Challenge.

The challenge is designed to encourage research in social science and the humanities, using large-scale data analysis. Applicants will need to form international teams from at least two of the participating countries. Winning teams will receive funding from two or more of the funding agencies, and will be invited to present their work at a special conference.

This competition challenges scholars to develop international partnerships and explore vast digital resources, including electronic repositories of books, newspapers and photographs, to identify new opportunities for scholarship and encouraging international collaboration between scholars, librarians, data scientists and others. Interested applicants should submit a letter of intent by March 15, 2009. Final applications will be due by July 15, 2009.
