SNM offers open access to nuclear medicine publication -

International scientific and medical organisation Society of Nuclear Medicine (SNM), US, has announced that all content in its flagship publication - The Journal of Nuclear Medicine (JNM) - is now free and open to the public six months after publication. Previously, non-subscribers were able to access journal articles only after 12 months of publication of the article.

The journal's editorial board and the society's board of directors approved expediting open access in order to help disseminate new research - helping increase understanding and sound practice of nuclear medicine and molecular imaging throughout the medical community and with the public.

A monthly peer-reviewed publication, JNM was recently ranked second among 87 imaging publications by the Thomson Reuters Institute for Scientific Information's (ISI) Journal Citations Report. The impact factor is a measure of the citations to papers in scientific journals. It helps to evaluate a journal's relative importance, especially when compared with others in the same field. Since 2006, JNM citations have grown nearly 10 percent.

The Journal of Nuclear Medicine (JNM) covers a broad spectrum of subjects from basic science and chemistry investigations to clinical studies, molecular biology, therapies, and advanced technologies. It also publishes continuing medical education articles, invited perspectives and commentaries, procedure guidelines, book reviews and professional news. Beginning with papers published in the January 2009 issue of JNM, images will be published in full colour.
