Menopause announces rise in Impact Factor -

Healthcare publisher Lippincott Williams & Wilkins (LWW), part of Wolters Kluwer Health, US, and The North American Menopause Society have announced that Menopause: The Journal of The North American Menopause Society has recorded a significant increase in its Impact Factor - a key indicator of the readership and scientific value of medical journals.

According to the 2007 Thomson Reuters Journal Citation Reports, Menopause now ranks third out of 60 publications in the Obstetrics & Gynecology category. The journal's Impact Factor rose to 3.672. The Impact Factor reflects the number of times studies published in peer-reviewed journals are cited by new research papers. Studies published in Menopause received a total of 2,108 citations, an increase of 36 percent compared to the 2006 report.

Menopause provides a forum for new research, applied basic science, and clinical guidelines on all aspects of menopause. The scope and usefulness of the journal extend beyond gynecology, encompassing many varied biomedical areas, including internal medicine, family practice, medical subspecialties such as cardiology and geriatrics, epidemiology, pathology, sociology, psychology, anthropology, and pharmacology. Content is selected to provide up-to-date research evidence and practice information for all professionals involved in the health care of women at menopause and beyond-not only gynecologists but also primary care physicians and physicians in other specialties, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychologists, and basic scientists, among others.

In the past year, Menopause has published studies on topics ranging from women's experience of menopause and menopausal symptoms, including their impact on health and lifestyle; potential long-term effects of menopause, such as osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease; biological changes and genetic factors associated with menopause; and treatment approaches for menopause symptoms, including hormone therapy and complementary and alternative medicine options, such as herbal supplements.
