Digital content services provider Ingram Digital, US, has announced that it has been selected by the Greater Western Library Alliance (GWLA) to launch the consortium's first user driven e-book programme. A consortium of 31 research libraries located in the Midwestern and Western US, GWLA is offering members the ability to leverage Ingram Digital's inventory of more than 100,000 academic and scholarly titles on a patron-driven basis.
Libraries participating in the GWLA e-book programme will be able to create custom collections from Ingram Digital's vast inventory of content. In addition, the programme's patron-driven model will ensure that libraries only pay for e-books accessed, maximising return on investment. Libraries at the University of Houston, Utah State University, Baylor University, Southern Illinois University and Kansas State University have already signed up to participate in GWLA's e-book programme.
The University of Puerto Rico School of Dentistry recently opted for the Ingram Digital platform to deliver the entire programme's curriculum in digital form, beginning in the Fall of 2008. Ingram Digital's e-book platform claims to significantly enhance the learning experience by infusing textbooks and other course materials with advanced interactive functionality. It also allows efficient access and storage of a robust library of content directly on the student's PC or Mac.
