STM publisher IOS Press, Netherlands, has announced that a recent special issue of WORK: A Journal of Prevention, Assessment and Rehabilitation, covering Children and Ergonomics, is being made freely available. Guest-edited by Prof. Carolyn M. Sommerich, the articles in this issue seek to provide an interesting cross-section of current research concerning youths and ergonomics, from authors around the world.
The interdisciplinary, international journal publishes peer-reviewed manuscripts covering the entire scope of the occupation of work. It occasionally publishes thematic issues, but in general, issues cover a wide range of topics such as ergonomic considerations with children, youth and students; the challenges facing an ageing workforce; workplace violence; injury management; performing artists; ergonomic product evaluations; and the awareness of the political, cultural, and environmental determinants of health related to work.
Dr. Karen Jacobs, the founding editor, and her editorial board especially encourage the publication of research studies, clinical practice, case study reports, as well as personal narratives and critical reflections of lived work experiences (autoethnographic/autobiographic scholarship); Sounding Board commentaries and Speaking of Research articles. These are seen to provide the foundation for better understanding research to facilitate knowledge dissemination. WORK claims to be an author-friendly journal, reviewing manuscripts expeditiously and publishing them in a timely manner. The journal celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2010.
