Journal of Biomedical Science publishes first articles as an open access publication -

Open access publisher BioMed Central, UK, has announced that the Journal of Biomedical Science has published its first articles as an open access publication. The journal is supported by the National Science Council (NSC) of Taiwan, and authors will not be required to pay any article processing charges to publish in the journal.

Led by Editor-in-Chief Michael M. C. Lai, the Journal of Biomedical Science seeks to be an important forum for communication among experts from different biomedical fields and between the scientific community in Asia and the rest of the world. The journal is indexed in MEDLINE and Web of Science and has an Impact Factor of 2.02. According to Lai, the transition to BioMed Central's open access publishing platform will further develop the journal, enabling the high-quality research to be more accessible to readers and authors internationally.

An increasing interest to switch from traditional journals to open access has been observed. Several other established journals affiliated with scientific societies/organisations have transferred to BioMed Central's open access platform. These include the Italian Journal of Pediatrics (Italian Society for Pediatrics), Journal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research (Italian National Cancer Institute), Asia Pacific Family Medicine (Asia Pacific Region of WONCA), and Scandinavian Journal of Trauma, Resuscitation and Emergency Medicine (affiliated with 9 Scandinavian societies).
